RABBLE Return
www.rabbletheatre.com
After over a year of closed theatres and with significant support from Arts Council England, amongst others, we are delighted to let you know that The Last Abbot of Reading will take place outdoors in the Chapter House of Reading Abbey ruins this summer.
"I look forward to supporting this excellent company outdoors at Reading Abbey Ruins this summer."
- Sir John Madejski, Patron of RABBLE Theatre
Written by Beth Flintoff (Henry I, Matilda the Empress & Henry II, as well as Oscar Wilde on Trial), the dramatic new play tells the incredible tale of Reading’s unlikely last abbot, Hugh Faringdon, and his devastating relationship with Henry VIII.
Founded by Henry I and once the envy of all Europe, Reading's Medieval Abbey celebrates its 900th Anniversary during the production.
"Having seen all their previous productions, I’m really looking forward to seeing The Last Abbot.”
- Councillor Tony Page, Deputy Leader of Reading Borough Council
The production follows in the vein of RABBLE’s successful Conquerors Trilogy, celebrating the extraordinary history of our region of England.
All visitor information, including covid safety measures, can be found on our website.
"Like the festival scene, theatre has had it tough and we need to support RABBLE as they bravely get out there to entertain us.”
- Melvin Benn, Managing Director of Festival Republic (Reading Festival) and Patron of RABBLE
