⚠️ Huge Wasteland Fire in Ramsgate
You could see the thick black smoke for absolute miles tonight. There is a massive fire burning in an area of wasteland in Ramsgate—it looks like a pile of dumped tyres that has been deliberately set alight but im not sure.

Illegally dumped waste is becoming more and more common lately.

Huge thanks to Kent Fire and Rescue Service who are on the scene. They have the fire relatively contained but it just seems to continue to burn.

Keep your windows shut if you’re nearby!

Another fantastic turnout for the Oh So Retro meet on the Green! 🚗✨ There are some absolute beauties parked up right by the Hugin Viking Ship in Cliffsend today.

If you’re a fan of vintage motors, it is well worth a visit. Such a brilliant atmosphere!

The Hugin Viking ship is shedding its winter coat!

A team from Thanet District Council have been out today removing the protective covers. It’s a sure sign that warmer days are on the way as this iconic landmark is revealed in all its glory for the 2026 season.

The Hugin is much more than just a local landmark; it has a fascinating history:

The ship is a replica of the 9th-century Gokstad ship. It was built in Denmark and sailed across the North Sea in 1949 to commemorate the 1,500th anniversary of the landing of Viking leaders Hengist and Horsa at nearby Ebbsfleet.

The Daily Mail Connection. While the ship was a gesture of friendship from the Danish government, the Daily Mail famously sponsored the venture and presented the ship as a gift to the towns of Ramsgate and Broadstairs to be preserved for generations to come.

The 1949 voyage was no small feat! A crew of 53 Danes made the crossing using only a sextant for navigation, staying true to traditional Viking conditions (and yes, they wore the tunics to match!).

After being met by a crowd of over 30,000 people at Viking Bay, the ship eventually found its permanent home on the clifftop at Pegwell Bay, where it stands today as a tribute to our area's deep-rooted history.
