You don’t always need a new place to find a new photograph.

Sandbanks is somewhere I keep returning to. The same shoreline, familiar markers and benches looking out to sea. Yet a different tide or a change in the sky can make me see it afresh.

Over time, those visits became a body of work. Bringing the photographs together in a book gave me a chance to see the connections between them, and to share something of what keeps drawing me back.

I have a few copies of Sandbanks Peninsular available. A 60-page softback of black-and-white photography, printed on silk paper. £20 a copy.

I want to know what makes you pick something off the shelf and take it home forever. How about with art? Have you identified something that makes art resonate with you, or is it just a spark you can't explain?

Tell me your answer; I'll tell you mine.

"Yami no Nami: Waves of Darkness" is today's feature.

Sometimes the best gift isn't for someone else. Hint, hint.

"Ocean Wave Motifs"

Ah, the beauty of chaos! "Ocean Wave Motifs" is my playful take on the dance of light and motion, where lines twist and turn like waves crashing against the shore. This piece captures the essence of a night filled with energy, revealing the dynamic interplay between darkness and illumination.

I love how the abstract forms evoke a sense of movement, almost as if you can hear the ocean's whispers. It’s a bit like my own life—sometimes chaotic, but always with a spark of creativity! Hang this on your wall, and let it bring a touch of the ocean's rhythm into your space.

Perfect for those who appreciate a bit of whimsy and a lot of character!

Longer evenings are good for slowing down with something worth looking at. Might I suggest "Suishō no Umi: Crystal Sea" as you take a beat?

Two people walking together. A lone runner. A small group out with their dogs.

Ordinary moments, but each changes the feeling of a photograph. My latest article, “A Quiet Kind of Attention”, explores what we begin to notice when we stop searching for something more remarkable.

What catches your eye when you’re out walking?

I love reading anything to do with 'actual photography' especially where I can see the work and processes of other photographers! So, to have an article published in this magazine is so SPECIAL!!😎

Sometimes I head out with the camera and forget that I’m allowed to simply be there.

Not every visit to the landscape needs to end with a photograph. My latest article is about making a little time for yourself, without needing something to show for it.

Do you find it easy to slow down when you’re outdoors?
