Jubilee Cup    Thursday 8th March

Judge: Naomi Saul

The Jubilee Cup was hosted by Barnet and Finchley Photographic Society and featured photographs submitted by Barnet and Finchley, Potters Bar and Southgate clubs.

You never know what to expect from an ‘open’ interclub competitions with clubs having their own specialism’s. The one thing you are guaranteed is a higher level of competition.

The evening started with the Print competition, this was to prove a particularly fruitful part of the competition for Southgate. Jackie’s ‘mist over the mekong’ scored well as did Kath’s photo of London building cladding which created an abstract photo that Naomi could not work out but liked and again scored well. Only two prints gained full marks, both were submitted by Southgate. Annie’s ‘Arctic fox’ and Ian F’s ‘Discussing Haircuts’. At the halfway stage Southgate lead the competiton by a healthy seven points.

Barnet      99 pts

Potters Bar       106 pts

Southgate   113 pts

Arctic Brown Fox.       20pts

Discussing Haircuts     20pts

Mist on the Mekong      18pts

Stork with Prey         19pts

Shimmering Waves        18pts

Three Lads              18pts

The second half featuring ‘PDI’s was more evenly contested.  This was partly due to Barnet’s screen presenting too contrasty and saturated with Naomi having to make allowance. Pat’s ‘Vesterhorn at midnight’ was liked by Naomi, a view seen many times before given a different edge by Pat’s image gaining full marks. Carol’s ‘Cheetahs on the lookout’ also gained full marks as did Zahava’s ‘Barbiphobia’

PDI’s

Barnet      110 pts

So what is a camera club competition?
Recently we hosted a in camera club competition with a set theme of minimalism. Members of the camera club submitted 3 photographs each and they were reviewed by an external judge. Each image was given constructive criticism enabling constant learning and development within our community. The images were scored on a scale between 0 and 20 with the winning photo coming from .
The selection of images featured here were taken by showing different ways you could approach a set theme such as minimalism. The first image in the set won the competition out right.

If you like taking photos and would like to find out more, leave us a comment or send us a DM.
