Mark Cook Photography

Mark Cook Photography I'm Mark, a photographer based on the wild and windswept west coast of the Scottish Highlands.

My background in graphic design has shaped my eye for balance and composition, but it’s behind the lens where I’ve found my true calling.

Strength and power were at the heart of what I wanted to convey through this series of photographs.

Deslyn Mothae-Hall is an inspiring fitness instructor who has built her business from the ground up. Through Bootcamp at Dalmally and her individual fitness classes, she has created a space that reflects her own determination, discipline and passion for helping others.

As a photographer, I wanted these images to communicate more than just physical strength. I wanted to capture the confidence, character and resilience behind the person, the qualities that have shaped both her and the business she has built.

It was a privilege to work with her and create a series of images that I hope reflect that strength and individuality.

Sometimes all it takes is one small decision to send you in a completely different direction.

For me, it was buying a camera nearly two years ago. After a bit of a rough patch, I started heading out into the Scottish landscape simply to get creative again. I wasn't trying to start a business, I just wanted to enjoy making something.

I originally studied graphic design, but nine years ago I stepped away from the industry to explore my own creative outlets. Since then I've illustrated posters, carved, moulded, painted and finished handmade fishing lures, and designed logos for some great people along the way.

Photography has always been part of my life too. I still spend much of my working week photographing whisky bottles for a retailer. Getting back out with a camera in my own time reminded me how much I enjoyed photographing everything else.

Not long after that, someone asked if I'd photograph a wedding. It was for a friend of a friend, it was last minute, and I thought, "Why not?" Since then I've photographed more weddings, properties and other projects alongside my day job.

I'm still happiest out with a camera exploring the west coast, but it's been brilliant seeing where photography has taken me over the last couple of years. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.

If you've been following along for a while, thank you. It really does mean a lot. And if you're new here, welcome.
