Short-eared Owl 🦉

This is a 2020 edit of a 2015 photograph. Where does the time go? I remember this stare down like it was yesterday!

The natural balance of life in the wild is kept in check by the relationship between predator and prey. The Sparrowhawk is one our most common avian ‘prey’ moderators.

The encounter with this young hunting female was just brilliant! 👌

Down on the woodland floor;

An Amanita Muscaria, or Fly Agaric begins to emerge and unfurl it’s cap, to become probably our most icon looking species of fungi.

Though the cap of the Fly Agaric does have hallucinogenic properties, it’s far more likely to make you ill and vomit.
The juice isn’t worth the squeeze, apparently.

Open up!

This Northern Gannets insane wide billed expression sums up exactly how I felt yesterday, cutting loose with the shutter on my new DSLR.

I took a trip to Bempton Cliffs to christen it and I’ll be honest, the D500 is an absolute breath of fresh air. The speed of the autofocus, the stunning sensor and the future image potential has left me thrilled to get out and photograph more wildlife.

It does have me fancying a new lens now though...... 😝

The Strix Stare

Strix Aluco or the Ferny Hoolet or the Brown Owl or the much more common name of Tawny Owl; is our most common Owl species.

The nocturnal voice of the British woodland and the bird epitome of all things folklore and gothic, these owls deliver a supernatural charm of days gone by.
