For me, that passion was photography. Thanks,

Mark

Hello,

I’m Mark and I’d like to let you know a bit more about me and what I love about photography.

Despite the many challenges 2020 brought with it, it also bestowed opportunity on us; opportunity to pause and to reflect as well as time to pursue your passions. I’ve always loved photography but in 2020, I decided to take that a step further and pursue it as a career. I love how a photo can

tell a story and how as the photographer, you become the storyteller. You can convey emotion, ideas and suggestions through a single image. I aim to capture the imagination of the observer, and leave them with more questions than answers. You can come up with your own conclusion, as to what an image really means to you. For me, photography is a mixture of both Art and History. Through an image you can truly capture moments in time and that time can actually be a culmination of decades and even centuries of moments, as seen as clearly in Robert Frank's Photograph "Trolley" (1955) as it is in Claude Monet's "Bridge over a pond of Waterlillies" (1899). Last year, I enrolled in a course with Edinburgh College to really take the next step with photography and now I’m working towards my (HND and) Degree. It has been a great opportunity to develop new skills and learn from others around me, as well as really taking my passion forward. Landscapes or Cityscapes

I find Landscapes and Cityscapes can be extremely evocative for people. It can transport you to somewhere new that you have never been to before or provide a new angle on an old familiar haunt or well known place. My favourite locations for landscape shots are Corpach in the Scottish Highlands, where I could get lost in time staring at the Old Wreck of Caol, and the majestic Forth Rail Bridge from North Queensferry. It’s not too far from home and as well as being a natural beauty and photographer’s dream, it reminds of the places we take for granted in our day to day lives. Similarly, I love to capture the soul of cities. Architecture tells so much of the history of a place, but more than this I enjoy discovering hidden gems and secrets that only locals would know. My favourite cities include Boston and New York, which is home to my all time favourite building/structure: the Flat Iron Building. With its distinctive shape and amazing history, I could spend the rest of the time photographing only that one iconic building and still find it fascinating. I love to travel and the dream is to take some fantastic photos of places people may never get to visit themselves, as well as exploring places on my own hit list. A technique I’m keen to learn next is to capture the night sky and star trails. The sky and space have always interested me and now I’d love to create beautiful landscapes of dark skies. You can find landcapes such as Corpach and Queensferry, as well as Cityscapes both local and abroad, in both the portfolio and print store sections at the top of the page. Still Life

Still Life can be so much fun to create and play with; especially food. You can tell a great story purely by the collections you put together in a photograph. At the moment, I’m loving experimenting with Black Background still lifes, which can really enhance the subject of the image. This style has given me a real momentum to enhance my creativity and unlock a new passion and focus: Commercial Photography. My dream is to eventually have my own studio property to allow both commercial and personal projects to flourish. Commercial Photography

I love to create an atmosphere around a product. Imagery can be a very powerful contribution to a brand and I love to tell its story; its why or purpose without using words. A good image can really tantalise the senses and evoke all kinds of emotion. I aim to build a connection with the product and to enable the company to build a connection with the viewer through the image.

I hope you’ve enjoyed what you see here. I’m keen to hear feedback on my work or what an image means to you. Please feel free to get in touch!
