So hear me out, this may not be the usual content you’d expect from a wedding vendor, it’s not pretty flowers, big dresses or first kisses but planning a wedding when you’ve lost someone close to you, perhaps someone who would have traditionally had a special role on the day is difficult but more common than most people think.

I know when I was planning my wedding, I felt weird, having lost my dad at the age of 12 this loss wasn’t new or fresh to me but it was another occasion where I felt othered because of my loss in a society who’s wedding traditions have such set roles for people.

Coupled with this desire to not ignore my disappointment that he wasn’t going to be there but also not have any cause for sadness on my special day, this aspect of wedding planning I struggled with and today’s blog is a combination of all the way’s I found to cope and all the things I picked up from my couples on how they address loss in their day.

Have.The.Wedding.You.Want 👏🏻

Before I start, is it too early in the year to mention Halloween? No, great!

When V&M were planning their wedding there was no question that it was going to be Halloween themed. Every year the couple go to town decorating their house for the spooky season so their wedding seemed like the perfect excuse to go all out.

Mark joked in his speech that there were more decorations they could have used an after seeing the clown in the toilets (terrifying BTW) I’m not surprised. But everything you see the couple collated, made and dressed themselves, there wasn’t a decorator or planner just themselves and to make the day exactly what they wanted, and I think you’ll agree that the venue looks amazing and it’s every Halloween obsessive’s dream come true.

Bonus point also goes to them for including their skeletal guests on the seating plan and naming them Brad and Janet, IYKYK
