Spending the morning listening to the radioactive remnants of the landscape thanks to Soviet nuclear weapons testing in the belly of the abandoned UMIST campus the work of Kamila / milktea Vicky Clarke and Auris. T1/2 (Half-Life), is a sound installation that was borne out of our creative producer programme with britisharts that introduced the artists who went on to explore the acoustic memory of the Semipalatinsk Test Site. Using field recordings and algorithmic sound processing, they uncover traces of trauma, resistance, and ecological self-repair in a space marked by nuclear history. It’s a vital, timely piece that reflects the last generation’s technology fetishisation run riot that seems pertinent to our ever accelerating abandonment of checks and balances as we meet the next technological revolution head on.

What could you do if you were better at taking risks?

On 12 October, we’re running a full-day course for creative producers, artists and cultural leaders who want to make bolder decisions without being reckless.

Risk as a Creative Tool is about knowing what you’re really dealing with. What could go wrong, what is worth taking a chance on, what you can control and where uncertainty might actually create an opportunity.

We’ll work through practical tools for assessing risk, making decisions and testing ideas before committing serious time, money or reputation.

You’ll leave with approaches and tools you can use immediately on live projects, new ideas and organisational decisions.

If you’re developing something new, changing how you work or trying to get an ambitious idea over the line, this day is for you.

A superb start to a Sunday thanks to Michelle Rocha inviting Andy Brydon to meet with the visiting producers from across Europe that are part of the EUNIC and Factory International creative producer delegation to Manchester. Comparing experiences across the breadth of Europe. Great to be able to share our productions and our development programmes - hopefully leading to some exciting collabs in the near future. from the member states of the European Union in London. A branch of EUNIC Global, the London network was established in 2007 and presently has 37 members who share knowledge and resources in order to promote greater cooperation and develop partnerships between European nations and UK organisations.

Tomorrow our Creative Producer training alumni Eda Emirdağ is leading a webinar on Montag Residency's ongoing research process around the idea of the “Comm-Unity Garden” - a space where ecology, artistic practice, and collective learning come together.

This research has grown through encounters across different contexts - from Tulla Urban Farming in Tirana to Islington Mill in Manchester, as well as through local observations and community-based practices in Turkey.

Inspired by the garden surrounding Montag Residency in Gönen, this webinar brings together artists, researchers, and community initiatives to share experiences and perspectives on community gardens as spaces of collective learning, ecological awareness, and social connection.

Following the presentations, participants are invited to join an open discussion and Q&A session.

The webinar link will open at 12:30 TRT (UTC+1 / BST+2).
No pre-registration is required.
