North Yorkshire Wildlife Photography Hides 2 person photography hide situated in North Yorkshire. A huge diversity of wildlife including Badgers, Otters, Deer and Stoats.

For Bird enthusiasts there are Kingfishers, Buzzards, Jays and Sparrowhawks as well as a plethora of woodland species.

It has been a pleasure to welcome so many new faces over recent weeks, and we are delighted by the positive feedback we have received regarding our setup and the variety we have to offer.

🦩 YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHAT’S GOING TO TURN UP! 📸

A little Egret decided to put on a fishing show right in front of our main wildlife hide today — and what a fantastic opportunity this would have been for a photographer!

With our low-level photography hatches, you can get down close to the water and create those stunning, eye-level reflection shots that really make wildlife images stand out. 🤩

Imagine this little Egret wading through the shallows, reflected perfectly in the water, with nothing between you and the action…

This is exactly why we love the hide at Welham Lake Nature Retreat. You simply never know what your next photograph is going to be!

🦔 Another project coming to life at Welham Lake Nature Retreat 🌙

We have a whole host of exciting projects evolving here, and one that is really starting to come to fruition is our hedgehog project — including hoglets! 🦔❤️

This footage comes from our second hide on the accommodation lake, where we have created a controlled lighting area specifically to allow us to observe and capture some of the wildlife visiting after dark.

And it isn't just the hedgehogs making an appearance… our Tawny Owls are visiting too. 🦉

It's fantastic to see these projects developing naturally and to be able to share the results with our visitors. We can't wait to see what else starts turning up!

A short video showing the power of our in-hide camera system! 📹🦉

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be installing this system into our hide for customers to use and view during their sessions.

We’re really excited about the possibilities and hope it will take the Welham Lake Nature Retreat experience to another level — giving photographers an even better opportunity to see what’s happening around the hide and be ready for those special moments.

More fantastic footage from our hide cameras! 🦦📸

A Green Woodpecker has been visiting around the hide for the last 3 days, and I have to admit, I think I’d be just as excited as the photographer if we managed to add one to the hide’s already impressive A-listers! 💚

With kingfishers, buzzards, badgers, jays, otters and now a Green Woodpecker making an appearance, you really never know what might turn up next!

See What’s Coming Before It Arrives 🦦📸

We’re currently developing our nature camera system at Welham Lake Nature Retreat, designed to take the wildlife experience at our hide to the next level.

Here you can see otters approaching the hide, giving the photographer a valuable heads-up that something special could be about to happen.

The aim is to give guests more opportunities to get ready, adjust their settings and be prepared for those fleeting wildlife moments — rather than only realising something is there when it’s already gone.

It’s still under development, but we’re really excited about the possibilities and how this system could enhance the experience for photographers visiting the hide.

Because with wildlife, sometimes being ready a few seconds earlier can make all the difference. 🦦📸
