A Norfolk Threshing Barn with Crow-Stepped Gables circa 1600’s in date..

Amazing the History you see if you know what to look for! This barn is 200-300 years old & is still being used today by our farmers!

This one is located in Thurton near Norwich.. What do you like best, the traditional red bricks, the thatched roof or the Gable end?

Wow what a response to the request for information on this one! 🪦 A find a grave record has been made, links can be found in the comments of this post where more info can be found..

After filtering through info from you guys & extensive research ourselves we believe this is as close as we can get to Identification on the people buried here.. It reads…

“Here lieth the body of Elizabeth wife of John Manning who died June the … 1738 (???) aged 50 (or 56)

Also Sarah Manning …. Daughter who died November 30 1699 age 2

Records show Elizabeth had a child who died May 1699 & a husband John. Back in those days it was common for dates to be mixed up so we are not too worried the grave says November not May. There are no records that we can find on the date Elizabeth died only a rough date almost unreadable on the grave marker..

We need your help…!

We have done our best to bring out the inscription on this grave but we would like you to see what words you can make out in hope we can piece it together so we can add info to find a grave..

The date of death is 1699 and is one of the oldest graves in St Margaret’s Church in Lowestoft.. it could also be a monks grave perhaps? 🪦

Back to back grave stones line the paths of St Margaret’s Church Walkways.. 😇

Thanks to a few of you following the page apparently they cleared all the graves from the back field in Lowestoft to make space for more graves removing head stones and relocating them like this to line the paths through the yard..

Most date in the Georgian & Victorian periods 17-1800’s from what we could see.. it’s actually quite a site & worth a visit.

Oldest Grave in the Graveyard? Dated 1695! Can you find an older one? 🙋‍♂️

We recently found this grave in Lowestoft it reads “here Lyeth the body of Catherine Fors Inerty the wife of Robert Neale who departed this life the 9th day of March 1695!

2 questions have we got “Fors Inerty” right (did the stone cutter mean for eternity?) and can you comment with a picture of an older grave than this…

A corridor of Graves! 🪦

St Margaret’s Church in Lowestoft has a unique & spectacular display of graves arranged in lines side by side to create corridors through the yard & to display the details of the dead as a mark of respect..

Having recently visited & explored the graveyard many of them look to be Georgian into the Victorian period dating in the 1800’s ..
