On our full-day street photography workshop you will learn the art and the essential techniques of street photography – whether in London, other major UK cities or in European cities such as Venice, Lisbon, Paris, Rome or Prague. Our workshops concentrate on ‘getting the picture’. We don’t get too bogged down with technicalities (though we do cover the essential basics such as camera settings, focusing, exposure, etc); we prefer to make the most of our time together by focusing on five key areas: 1 Building your confidence as a street photographer, conquering your fear of shooting on the streets 2 Developing your powers of observation so that you ‘see’ the opportunity 3 Helping you understand the principles of light and composition in travel or street photography 4 Coaching you in the essential shooting techniques to ensure that you capture ‘the moment’ 5 Enabling you to take stylish and meaningful images which go beyond the often-seen ‘stranger in a street’ picture Our Principal and Course Tutor is Brian Lloyd Duckett, a well-known London street photographer. Prior setting up a successful commercial and editorial photography business, Brian has worked as a press and agency photographer on the streets on London and many other cities. Brian’s latest book on street photography techniques – ‘Mastering Street Photography‘ – is published by Ammonite Press (2016) and is available in bookshops worldwide. He teaches as a Visiting Lecturer on photography degree courses and is a board member of the BPPA (British Press Photographers’ Association). Keeping it in the family, Alex Duckett assists on workshops, runs our marketing and social media and generally helps make the business tick. A history graduate, Alex is a keen street photographer and is currently helping to establish our courses in other European cities. And, last but not least, Johannah looks after our workshop administration and finances and has developed a talent for keeping the boys on track!

Our Story
Our unique combination of a highly experienced course leader (a professional street photographer, educator and photojournalist) and small groups leads to a powerful and immersive learning experience. Whilst an element of the workshop is theory-based, most of our time together is spent shooting on the streets, learning by experience with plenty of individual, hands-on tuition.
Our workshops are fun, informative and relaxed. They are sometimes provocative, usually challenging and always highly enjoyable; they will stretch your imagination, develop your skills and boost your confidence.
Street photography means different things to different people; for us, good street photography should extend beyond random pictures of strangers walking down a street or of people sitting in a cafe. We pay as much attention to the aesthetic as we do the technique and it is this combination which makes our workshops different.

ALLOTMENT PROJECT
I’ve now concluded my project with a local allotment association, which started last year, interrupted of course by you-know-what. As I got into the project the images fell into three categories: the allotments; the allotment holders; and aspects of detail. To finish, I produced two sets of images, one in colour for the Association and a smaller set of B&W images that would constitute my completed project, a small selection of which are presented here. Not street photography I know, but perhaps ‘street-esque’ in parts?

The first three are all from an informal collective in the NE, around Whitby - Chris Killip is better-known than the others, but Ian Macdonald is my favourite - not always exactly a 'street' photographer, more of a social documentarian, but I think of him as someone who doesn't take photos, but people 'give' them to him - a rare gift.

Does anyone in this group have a 50mm f1.2 (canon)? I appreciate this might not be a great shout for street, but if so could someone let me know? I'm tempted to get into doing headshots etc to make some cash so am curious to know other user's experiences
Any thoughts on aspect ratio? I've seen some advocating 4:3 and others going 16:9 (I get that they can be used for different things, but is there a "best fit")
I had a little time between appointments to take few images at this junction nr Aldgate. I really loved the reflects light from the buildings, colour and shapes. X100F
