We’re so grateful to the wonderful - Africa’s premier global money transfer service and app - for supporting this event.
So far we’ve loved hosting events with artists and friends around the world and connecting with their art, stories and experiences. A huge inspiration for us is
Lindiwe Poswa, who sadly passed away in August this year. A celebrated ANC activist, she was exiled to the UK in the 80s, with her home and legendary parties becoming a beloved safe house for many South African artists and activists. She was a vital force in the UK ANC movement and a pillar of the community.
In 1994, together with her sister, the late Lorraine Poswa and the community of Zithathele area in the rural town of Libode, Eastern Cape, South Africa, Lindiwe founded the . The region experienced some of the worst ravages of the apartheid era and the impacts of that time are still reverberating today.
Over the last few decades, the community have been committed to ensuring that children have access to early education. State-funded primary school in South Africa starts at the age of 6; prior to that pre-school education is only available on a fee-paying basis. In the late 90s, the London branch of the ANC began sponsoring the school with donations for books, food and teacher fees.
Further funds are needed to extend school infrastructure and pay the small staff team of teachers and a cook. We spotlighted this school for our event last winter and would like to continue supporting them on an ongoing basis.
