“Why do I always look awful in photos?”
We've all experienced this
It just doesn't look the same as what we see in the mirror
Have you heard of mere exposure?
It means we react more favourably to things we see more often
We see our face in the mirror more often than anything = Our preferred self-image
But the problem lies right there
When we look at a photo, we see the flipped version of our preferred self image
This causes an interruption in our brain
Then we wonder :
Why is my nose slightly slanted?
Why is my smile not straight?
Do I really look like that?
It's not familiar to you but to the world, that's how you look like
And you're amazing just the way you are
This is why its so important to have a professional photographer take away the pressure and bring out the best in you
Don't make the mistake and try to replicate the mirror image
This will cause you to make all kinds of wrong micro-expressions, adding MORE discomfort and anxiety to the brain
As a result, we think we are not PHOTOGENIC
Have you suffered from the Mere-Exposure effect?
