Approaching the end of a brilliant 10 night Photography tour I have led in association with Women in Wildlife Photography and Nick Gallios in Greece and Bulgaria. 5 happy days in Kerkini with the pelicans - as sensational and beguiling as always - followed by a trip into the Bulgarian mountains in search of wolves, vultures, eagles and small birds. A golden eagle in the snow was a first for me, and an unforgettable experience. My American guests - Jana, Joanna, Melody and Stella - were an absolute joy and wonderful company.

Thank you Nikos for all your hard work putting the trip together, to Sarah E. Devlin for inviting me on to her esteemed team of photographers, and to my guests for the privilege of guiding them and introducing them to these special places and their charismatic wildlife.

Thrills and Spills .....

Back from leading another brilliant workshop at in Northern Greece photographing the enigmatic Dalmatian pelicans. This place never fails to deliver unadulterated joy to all those who visit - out on a lake, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, blue sky, (mostly) sunshine, and crazy, giant birds who'll do almost anything for a filet-o-fish.

Flying Low Part II

The joy of f/4. This owl was flying so low through the tall grass, you can see how high it was by the blur on the wings almost all the way up to its eyeline. Flying into the sunset and turning its wings into the most radiant stain glass. These shorties have brought so many of us such a thrill over the last couple of months 🙏 hope I'm not boring you with some of my favourite moments 🤣

"Flying Low"

Unfortunately, I've had to cancel my upcoming February workshop to photograph these extraordinary birds. The operating table calls me once more. You think when you have an amputation that that will be that .... 😱 ... but sadly, I've had haemorrhaging round the site and terrible nerve pain - commonly known as phantom pain - for the last two years since the original "terminalisation" (the official clinical description!). The exhausted state of the NHS means when you're offered a date for surgery, you don't want to pass it up. It's not a great prospect and it'll write-off February. But wintertime is obviously preferable for me timing-wise compared to spring and summer. The upside - hopefully an end to the heavy drug regime that I've been on, and I'm already mapping dates for my 2025 workshop. I'd love to hear from you if you're planning ahead and are interested to know more.
