A milestone for the archive as I've just completed digitising the last video tapes! Apart from some 'snagging' - picking up on a few tapes I had issues with, that is very much it for having to capture video in real time to digitise it. Youtube will reach around the 1500 videos mark.
The next generation of Camcorders recorded direct to hard drives, so straightforward to add the masters to the archive, and hopefully there will not too be too many intermediate stages to get them uploaded onto Youtube. Of course, still much work too to update the Database.
I will be uploading the remaining digitised content to Youtube over the next week, doing the 'snagging', and then starting work on the digital masters.
Will I be uploading videos right up to the present day, I hear you ask? Both Véronique and I stopped taking videos once the children had grown up. However, small clips continued to be taken on smartphones and digital cameras - I think the whole family has been doing that! - and recently I've been taking more 4K footage on my digital camera. Therefore I'll definitely be adding my footage as long as I'm taking, but you will have to decide if you want any of your footage in the archive! With the first in a new generation of my Parent's branch of the family born just a month ago, videos may be taking off again!
