The People:
They Were Just Kids starts from the collaboration of
Silvia Miotti, Carolina Ubezio and Benedetta Ubezio. Silvia, Benedetta and Carolina are proposing an educational project for schools as an awareness photographic campaign. The Idea:
In this project children have the chance to learn history in a fun and interactive way: In “They Were Just Kids” children literally put themselves in a
famous historical character's shoes for a day, dressing like them in their most famous and recognisable poses. Children learn about some of the most important characters in British history (including Jane Austen and Winston Churchill), first by “meeting” those famous characters through anecdote and curiosities, then by moving and talking like them, like in a drama lesson, and, finally, by literally taking their places inside world famous portraits and pictures. The Aim:
“TheyWereJustKids” has two main aims:
Firstly, it is an educational project, helping children get acquainted with history in a unique and fun way. Secondly, it is an awareness campaign: all these famous characters were, once upon a time, “Just Kids”. And yet, as grown ups, they changed the world they were living in - a world which we now cannot imagine without them. We hope the project will serve as a reminder to nurture, love and cherish our children and to always help them fulfil their potential. For this reason, each picture will be matched with a phrase, as a keepsake, not only for parents but for all of us, so that we never stop seeking a better way to be close to our children while they grow.
