Every year, on my son William’s birthday, I take a self portrait of the two of us together.

I’ve been doing it for 23 years.

From the beginning, I wanted to create a body of work that would slowly build over time, documenting us as a family and capturing my boy growing up.
I also wanted to record the subtle changes around us:
our home, our pets, the furniture, the mess, and all the little everyday details
Most of the photographs were taken in our living room, occasionally in other places.
Some years were chaotic, taken after school, after birthday parties.
Others were much quieter, including his 18th birthday during the pandemic.
More recently, the location changed when William moved to Manchester for university, and I travelled there for three birthdays to continue the series.

And as he’s grown older, he’s fully embraced the project — which means we will carry on creating our little time capsule of our life ❤️

As boot fair season starts again, I wanted to share some images from last year, documenting sellers.
As the project continues, my aim is to capture more than just people — a snapshot of everyday life: the items, the cars, the clothing, within this informal economy. 🏷️

I really loved shooting this commission from the Department for Culture, Media & Sport!
We worked with real families in Essex and Birmingham, capturing natural, energetic moments that felt authentic and relatable, from garden games to heading out to the local park.

The “Let’s Move!” campaign is all about helping families add playful bursts of movement into everyday life, especially during the colder months when it’s easier to stay indoors.
Proud to have helped bring this message to life.

This week, I had the honour of photographing families at the House of Commons with The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation
Families who have endured unimaginable loss, coming together to drive change and raise awareness about anaphylaxis.

Yesterday, alongside brave, bereaved families, we went to the House of Commons to launch a landmark report that exposes how the UK’s inquest system is failing people with severe allergies and putting lives at risk.

This cannot continue.

Our daughter, Natasha, was just 15 when she died after eating a baguette that didn’t list sesame – an ingredient she was allergic to. Her death was entirely preventable as are nearly all anaphylaxis deaths.

Families like Ayeshah, Abimbola, Emma, Delyth, Maxine, Angela, Chanel & Adrian, Mike & Aicha and Kerrie & Craig, are turning the unbearable grief of losing their children from anaphylaxis, into powerful calls for change. Their courage fuels our mission.

❌ No more avoidable allergy deaths.

❌ No more silence.

🥀 We need to change the system, save lives, and honour those we have lost.

A lovely article just came out about my long-term project "Last Days of the Fair "following Carters Steam Fair and Joby Carter Signwriter on their last ever tour of this beautiful vintage steam fair.

Self-set assignments are crucial to the development of any creative, particularly those looking to move into documentary photography, and they can not only help to hone storytelling skills but, as Zoe Norfolk discovered, they can also acquire an importance that wasn’t originally envisaged.

New Work
Finding love in your nineties:

Marjorie 97 and Tom 92 had known each other for many years, both were widowed some time ago. It was the sudden loss of Marjorie’s son, that brought them closer together.
Out of this companionship, something unexpected and deeply comforting began to grow. At a stage of life when most assume romance and new beginnings are behind them, they found themselves falling into a relationship filled with warmth, laughter, and mutual respect.
The connection they share is not built on grand gestures or youthful excitement, but on the steady foundation of companionship, shared memories, and a deep appreciation for each day. It is a quiet kind of love — unhurried, deeply rooted, and all the more precious for having arrived when neither expected it.
