🎓: BA Hons Photojournalism & Documentary Photography Hi, I am Sofia Perera. I started taking photographs without a real focus.

I’ve always enjoyed photography as a craft but as I got older I learnt it was more than a medium, it was a tool. This tool can be used to both express and manipulate the world around us. It consisted of friends, family and anything that intrigued me really, a visual notebook. I started to take photography more seriously in 6th Form at Burntwood where I took it for A level. I was also elected Media

Officer by my peers for Wandsworth Youth Council which really impacted my practice, something I didn’t realise until I reflected on it recently. Images, both fabricated through a paintbrush or captured on a lens, tell a story. I have been using through my academic career to explore myself, my heritage and my identity. My practice now consists of further story telling, both that of my own and of others because one way to understand ourselves if through others. This is what I wish to do with my work, to share a glimpse of one’s reality.

Punch up Review✨

Punch up is an original comic-manga by ✨

With weird and fabulous characters like an anglerfish-man and colourful pirates, the vibrant colours offer a light relief for our young orphan protagonist, Pitch.

We learn that Pitch’s dream is to be a fighter just like his idol Sonny Chan, who he’d like to be his mentor and teacher.

After reading the interview “FCBD23 Interview: Punch Up!” it’s fair to say that with Zachary’s love for manga, we will not see Pitch give up until he becomes the very best fighter he can be and I’m sure make a lot of interesting friends along the way. I love the art style, it definitely has a feel good visual that can be a good balance if you’re used to reading darker comics.

From a creative perspective it has really highlighted certain aspects I want to bring into my own work such as exaggerated expressions, that are very manga (idk why but i started laughing thinking of one punch man and his expressions) and bold colours as well as character concepts to just be brave, that no idea is too weird because some people like that and they are who I’d want to look at my work hehe.

I got this comic book at during free comic book day.

If you want to ride a rollercoaster and can’t leave your work break room, this is the comic for you.

The comics starts, family seated saying grace. I was thinking “this is a lovely family meal” and then it quickly changed to “this is not a lovely family meal.” lmao

-“Tomorrow is a harmonious paradise thanks to the careful oversight of five families who make everything perfect... for the price of one child per household. “-

The last page really had me going ohh shieeeettt because once you put 2&2 together you realise why the dad be moving the way he doesss. TW for domestics. The foil between the children, show entitled vs. Entitled to death.

I can’t wait for the series to reach stores officially for #1. I was looking for a new read and I think I’ve found it 😁 so gassed✨

-“a son expected to give everything for a family that never loved him, and an affluent daughter determined to destroy utopia, must unite to end one generation's unnaturally protracted reign.”- perhaps a cheeky team up 👀 also the whole fire hair reminds me of hades from Hercules and im loving it. Really cool character designs.
