Throwback to October 5 years ago, cute little reminder popped up on my phone of the first time I was given the opportunity to capture an extremely precious and powerful moment… My eyes were truly opened to the beauties and horrors of childbirth in ways I wouldn’t have ever imagined so I’ll always treasure this day and respect mothers for what they have to endure in order to bring life into the world ❤️
I remember repeatedly asking if this lady was sure she was happy to have this moment captured as I was low-key nervous myself and worried about being too invasive but she was so determined, focused and kept finding the strength to check and make sure ‘the camera lady’ could see when her family crowded around 🥲 I remember at one point she said she needed me and as I went over she said no ‘just your hand’ and yes she squeezed the crap out of it - but I felt of more use in that moment than when capturing any of these shots.
I remember this being the beginning of me realising that I find more joy in capturing the mindful moments of life that make the best memories to reflect on, as moments like these usually only store away in the memories of our minds, soon to forget details over time, but are the most meaningful.
I’m currently out of practice but when I do start back up, I hope to capture more keepsakes than anything relating to fashion, beauty and portraits 🥹 but, who knows… let’s see what happens one day.
Thank you again to this beautiful soul and her family for allowing me to be apart of such a special moment 🙏🏾🐣🍼👩🏽🍼🧑🏾🍼
