6/6 🇬🇷☦️
Agion Oros (the Holy Mountain).
This marks the final post of this journey with a few glimpses from Hilandar 🇷🇸, Esphigmenou (the northernmost of the Athonite monasteries), Konstamonitou Monasteries and Karyes.
Over 700 photographs later, it is clear that Mount Athos cannot be captured. There are places where the camera is not allowed, and many more still left unseen. Perhaps a lifetime is not enough and there is a lot to be said. What is certain is that the Holy Mountain is not a touristic place you visit, but a sacred land that quietly receives you with the blessings of the Most Holy Theotokos, strips away everything unnecessary, and returns you to Orthodoxy, to Christ and to yourself. An, at least, once-in-a-lifetime journey worth taking not only for Orthodox Christians, but especially so. God willing, and through the prayers of the Most Holy Theotokos, I shall return one day.
All my Orthodox brothers and sisters observe the Great and Holy Friday today, the most solemn day of the year, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. Today is a strict fast day of mourning and spiritual reflection. May we pause and reflect on His sacrifice, His humility, and the depth of His love.
«Υπεραγία Θεοτόκε, σώσον ἡμᾶς»
Most Holy Mother of God, save us.
