Long before silence settled over its weathered stones, Birkwood Castle stood proudly as the home of the Lockhart family, watching over the lands of Lesmahagow for centuries. Time transformed the estate, and in the 19th century the grounds became home to Birkwood Asylum, a psychiatric hospital that cared for patients for many decades before its closure. Today, the castle remains a quiet reminder of the many lives, stories and changing chapters that have shaped this remarkable place. 🏰📸
