Visibility isn’t vanity, it’s memory.

A quick photo with .worrall (who enriches lives through thoughtful architecture) at .pop Normanton yesterday, where we were talking about visibility, presence, and how we show up online.

I’d just got back from a couple of days away, and this photo reminded me how much life a little bit of backlighting can add to a grey Nottinghamshire Wednesday.

Sometimes it really is the smallest things - a good conversation, a shared moment, a bit of light falling in the right way, that make something worth capturing.

And I’m reminded again that showing up doesn’t have to be complicated. Just honest. Just present.

If you want to be more visible online but aren’t sure where to start, or you’d like imagery that helps you show up consistently and authentically, I’d love to help. Is this your sign to get in touch?

Visibility isn’t about attention. It’s about connection.

You don’t need everyone to like you. You just need your people to find you.

For a long time, I thought I didn’t fit in.

At school, I often felt like I was on the outside looking in. Later, when I entered working life, that feeling followed me through different jobs and environments.

Eventually, I started to realise something important: I wasn’t struggling to fit in, I was simply in spaces that weren’t right for me.

It wasn’t until I began to show up more honestly, and later build my own business, that things started to shift.

The more visible I became as myself, the more I attracted people who shared my values, humour, and way of seeing the world.

That’s why I care so much about personal branding.

It isn’t just about nice images.

It’s about helping people feel confident enough to be seen - properly seen.

Because when you do, you naturally start to attract the right opportunities, clients, and connections, and your confidence grows with it.

That’s the part I love most about brand photography - watching people find their people.

So if you’ve ever felt like you don’t quite fit in, maybe the answer isn’t to blend in.

Maybe it’s to become more visible.

Helping business owners become visible, memorable, and unmistakably themselves.

If you’re ready to show up as you are, I’d love to help.

A huge shout-out to Hayley for organising a fantastic charity boot camp in support of .

Despite the pouring rain, a committed crowd turned up, worked hard, and brought plenty of energy to the morning.

It was great to see so many people coming together to raise money for a local charity that provides vital care and support to families across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

It was a privilege to capture the spirit of the event - determination, community, and a lot of noise!

Great work guys! ⭐️

A little Thursday reminder...

You don't have to post every day. You don't have to go viral. You don't have to get it perfect.
You just have to keep showing up.

Because every post is another opportunity for someone to discover who you are, what you do, and how you can help.

Have a glorious Thursday, whatever the weather is doing outside.

Why I chose to niche into personal brand photography for women-led businesses.

For a long time, I thought my job was simply to take great photos.

But over the years, I started noticing something deeper happening during shoots - especially with women who felt nervous about being in front of the camera.

The women who arrived saying: “I hate having my photo taken.” “I never know what to do.” “I’m just not confident enough for this.”

And then slowly… something would shift.

Not because I forced confidence onto them. But because they felt seen. Safe. Guided. Comfortable enough to laugh, relax, and stop worrying about “getting it right.”

That’s when I realised my work was never just about photography.

It was about visibility.

Helping women who usually shrink themselves feel more comfortable being seen. Helping them show up authentically in their business, brand, and creative work.

Helping them realise they don’t need to become a different person to feel confident on camera.

That’s one of the biggest reasons I chose to niche into personal brand photography for female entrepreneurs.

Not because it was trendy. Not because someone told me to.

But because I realised this is where my natural strengths genuinely help people most.

I listen before I create. I guide gently. And I care deeply about helping women-led businesses show up online with clarity, personality, creativity, and intention.

Because being visible in your business shouldn’t require becoming someone else first.

If you’re building a women-led business and want imagery that feels authentic, thoughtful, and genuinely aligned with who you are, I’d love to connect.

I surprised myself a little this week.

At a networking event, I stood up and delivered my one minute without refering to my notes for the very first time.

As usual, a bit nervous; but great that after all this time, I managed to get my point across.

Hi, I’m Matt.
I photograph people with personality, warmth, and intention.

I listen and plan before I create - because the strongest personal brand imagery begins with connection, not a camera.

I help women-led creative businesses show up online with clarity, personality, and intention - attracting clients who feel aligned, not accidental.

I especially love working with neurodiverse people, creating space for individuality, honesty, and ways of working that feel calm and comfortable.

And if the idea of being photographed makes you want to hide a little… you’re not alone in that.

That evening reminded me of something simple:
My work has never been about performing confidence.

It’s about creating enough safety for people to come home to themselves in front of the camera.
If you’ve been looking for a more relaxed, human way to be photographed…

Maybe this is your sign to start a conversation.

Have a gorgeous evening!

Business with personality - .co.uk

During our initial chat, Suzie mentioned: 'We take business seriously, but we're a friendly team and I really want that to come across in our brand imagery' - was all I needed to hear to know that we are aligned match.

This wasn’t a business trying to polish away personality. It was a team who understands that professionalism and warmth can exist in the same frame.

A good part of my work begins here - before the camera even comes out. In listening. In noticing. In finding the heartbeat of a brand and letting it quietly shape everything that follows.

The planning stage is where things start to soften into place. Where people begin to exhale. Where we talk less about “how you should look” and more about how you want to feel.

With SGS Hub, Suzie was intentional about that from the start. She wanted her team to feel comfortable being seen as they are - capable, warm, and genuinely likeable.

And on shoot day, that groundwork shows.
There’s a ease that appears when trust is in the room. My role becomes less about directing…
and more about noticing what’s already there.

What we created together feels open, contemporary, human. Imagery that reflects real people. Real energy. Real connection.

The kind of imagery that lets the right clients recognise themselves - and step forward.

Great work everyone!

Where on earth have I been?

A wedding shoot in Nottingham on Monday.
A breather at Rutland Water on Tuesday.
An event shoot with WKM Wealth on Wednesday.
A pub opening with Everards on Thursday.

Then suddenly… it’s Friday, I’m back at my desk, and I’m wondering where the week actually went.

I don’t photograph events as much as I used to, but this week definitely had other ideas.

What it did reminds me, though, is how much I enjoy documenting energy, connection, atmosphere, and all the little in-between moments that happen when people come together.

The cocktail by the river was captured by Vic Taylor during our wild dining adventure last weekend. ⭐️

An eventful week. 📷

Have a great weekend, lovely people.

Who decided a beer tasting at 10am on a Monday was a good idea…?

(Yes. Guilty as charged.)

Yesterday we filmed the pilot episode of The Tasting Room with my video production partner Adam Sandy, kicking things off at with .

Talking all things Tiger; their flagship ale, freshly reimagined after its recent rebrand.

What’s wild is how this all began: I met Adam at the end of last year at .pop, where I was presenting about brand photography (and quietly weaving in my cookbook on the side).

A simple creative exchange in a room like that…
somehow became the spark for this project.
A reminder that showing up - even in unexpected spaces - has a way of opening doors you didn’t know were there.

There’s always that slight edge of nerves stepping into something new like this, especially on camera.
But I’ve learned this: you don’t think your way into momentum. You begin your way into it. And once we got going… it just flowed.

One very disciplined sip of Tiger later (honestly, barely a centimetre), and I was oddly energised for a Monday morning.

Standing with Jon Elks, Head Brewer at Everards, hearing the story behind something so many people already know and love - that was the real privilege.

This project is about the passionate people behind the craft. The quiet makers. The local producers. The stories that don’t always get told. A shared creative space. A bit of curiosity. And seeing where it all leads next.

Grateful for the start of this one Adam, please be kind in the edit! 🍺📽 ☀️

Coming up for air after two months that changed something in me.

I’ve been a little quiet… and here’s why.

Last night, we wrapped up our mentor programme, and what a ride it’s been!

Two months of stretching, learning, questioning… and occasionally feeling completely scrambled (in the best way). Growth rarely feels neat, but it’s where everything shifts.

I’ve also met some brilliant people along the way, including , who’s now both a fellow photographer and a dear friend.

Celebrating our “graduation” together felt like a full-circle moment.

Just a note on slide one… yes, that’s me mid “hands in the air like I just don’t care” 🙌 (📷 by ) A little tribute to our Gill, who very much lives and teaches from that same high-vibe, fully-committed energy. Go Gill, you've been amazing!

This doesn’t feel like an ending. More like a beginning.

I’ve come away with more clarity, stronger direction, and a deeper sense of who I’m here to serve and how I want to show up.

More purpose. More intention. More joy in the work ahead.

So expect more cheerleading, more celebration, and probably a few pom-poms along the way.

Have a gorgeous Friday ☀️
