Sri Lanka through the lens

At dawn, the cloud forest feels like another world. The air is cold, the grasslands glow softly, and the mist moves like a living thing. This is the home of the Yellow‑eared Bulbul, the Dull‑blue Flycatcher, and if the mountains are kind the elusive highland leopard.

Sri Lanka through the lens

Sri Lanka’s forests have their own rhythm, slow, ancient, and full of quiet tension. Whether it’s the open plains of Yala or the deep, shadowed forests of Wilpattu, every drive feels like entering a story still being written.

Leopards, elephants, raptors… but also the small moments: dust catching the evening sun, a lone deer listening to the wind, the silence before a call.

This is where we practice patience and where the island often rewards it.

Sri Lanka through the lens.

Just minutes from the busy streets of Colombo, the world slows down. Purple herons glide low over the reeds, jacanas tiptoe across floating lilies, and the morning light paints the water in gold.

These urban wetlands are where my love for bird photography truly deepened, a reminder that nature survives even in the heart of the city.

This will be the first stop on the upcoming photography tour. A gentle beginning, where we learn to see before we click.

Sri Lanka Through the Lens

For years, I’ve wandered through Sri Lanka’s wetlands, forests, and national parks with a camera in hand and a heart full of home.

Soon, I’ll be opening the door for others to join me, to see the island the way I’ve seen it, through patience, light, and quiet wonder.

A new wildlife & bird photography journey is coming.

Stay tuned, the adventure begins soon.

Kingfisher Dive
For over 20 years, I’ve wandered through wetlands and waited by rivers, chasing a dream; to capture the dive of a Kingfisher.

It’s a moment that lasts less than a blink, too fast for slow gear, too distant for the wrong lens, too fleeting for imperfect light. I’ve tried, failed, and tried again.

But more than technique or equipment, it’s luck that rules this dance. The right place, the right time, the right light… all aligning for a fraction of a second.

A rare winter absence…
This stunning waxwing, usually a winter migrant from Scandinavia, is a welcome sight. Yet in 2025, sightings like this have been nearly nonexistent—likely due to a mild northern winter and abundant food keeping them home.
As climate patterns shift, even nature's most reliable travellers may no longer need to migrate. A gentle reminder that absence in nature often speaks just as loudly as presence.

Nature’s canvas, painted in shimmering waters. 🌾💧 The flooded fields cradle young rice plants, promising the bounty to come. In the heart of it all, a humble hut stands as a quiet witness to the rhythm of the seasons.
