Two gorgeous lion cubs resting in the Tuli wilderness in Botswana. I love how this particular cub, that I’ve named “Bo”, is keeping an eager eye out for potential threats (and photographers!)

One of the greatest moments of my wildlife photography journey to date. Spotting and photographing this beautiful leopard in the bush, at night, during an amazing week at the brilliant Tuli Wilderness in Botswana. I’m sure you’ll all agree that it is one magnificent cat and a memory that will stay with me forever.

It was a real privilege to be on the vehicle with Mike Phelps and Gareth Clifford | Wildlife Photographer at the time and joined a few minutes later by a d a m j u c k e s Mike Porter and Dave Clarke

Here’s one of my local Barn Owls photographed during a workshop I was running for the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust at Staveley Nature Reserve recently. Channeling my inner Jake | Wildlife Photographer I’d like to think I did this beautiful bird justice on this occasion.

There’s something about a lion’s gaze that makes you stop and forget everything else. 🦁

No roar. No dramatic moment. Just a quiet, powerful stare from a young lion cub lying low in the grass, completely at home in that world.

For a few seconds, our worlds met. And that cub made sure I knew exactly who was watching whom. ❤️

Wildlife photography is about so much more than capturing an animal. It’s about capturing that fleeting connection; a moment that stays with you long after you’ve left the bush.

Isn’t this the most beautiful bird? The Lilac-Breasted Roller, taken at Tuli Wilderness in Botswana. One of my favourite species of the trip. Hold on, who am I kidding? They were all favourite species!!!

Beauty isn’t always measured by stripes or spots. Sometimes it’s found in character. 🐗

The warthog is one of Africa’s most underrated animals. Built for survival rather than glamour, they thrive in some of the harshest environments, relying on intelligence, speed, and resilience to outwit predators every single day.

Every species has a story worth telling, and every encounter in the African bush is a reminder that nature’s greatest treasures come in all shapes and sizes.

Another from the brilliant Barn Owl session om Saturday’s workshop at Staveley Nature Reserve.

I have always said that every single Barn Owl encounter feels as exciting as the first. This one didn’t change my mind on that!

From Botswana back to Staveley.

Back down to earth with a bump after a wonderful time in Botswana as I ran my first workshop at Staveley Nature Reserve since returning to the UK.

Wonderful delegates and a brilliant Barn Owl encounter certainly made the morning one to remember!! Hope you like this image from the session…

Two generations of one Brown Hyena family.

Often overshadowed by their spotted cousins, brown hyenas are among Africa’s most elusive and misunderstood carnivores. Highly intelligent and remarkably resilient, they rely on strong family bonds and cooperation to thrive in some of the continent’s harshest environments.

Watching this mother and her two cubs at Tuli Wilderness, Botswana was the privilege of my life, a real reminder that some of the most rewarding wildlife encounters aren’t filled with drama, but with moments of connection.

A huge thank you to for the equipment that makes capturing these encounters possible, .wilderness for sharing such an extraordinary conservancy, for another unforgettable adventure, and and for the inspiration to appreciate the beauty and character of the magnificent wildlife of Africa.
