There’s something truly mesmerising about seeing a Red Kite up close. ❤️🪶

One of the biggest misconceptions about these magnificent birds is that their tail is always deeply forked. In reality, that’s far from the truth.

As this close-up footage shows, a Red Kite’s tail is incredibly flexible. Depending on what it’s doing—gliding, soaring, braking or manoeuvring—the distinctive fork can almost disappear, opening into a broad fan shape to provide greater control and stability in flight.

Despite the incredible level of detail, this footage was captured from a great distance using specialist equipment and responsible filming techniques, ensuring the bird was never disturbed. Respect for wildlife will always come before the shot.

It’s just another reminder of how perfectly adapted these birds are to life in the skies.

Sometimes, the closer you look, the more you learn.

🌧️🦅 There are moments in wildlife photography that stop you in your tracks…

As the rain poured down across the Norfolk countryside, this magnificent Red Kite fixed its gaze directly on the drone. Soaked feathers, piercing eyes, and a look that seemed to say, “What are you doing out in this weather?”

The truth is, neither of us should probably have been there. Yet while I was worrying about the rain, this incredible bird simply carried on, perfectly adapted to conditions that would send most creatures looking for shelter.

It’s easy to admire birds of prey when they’re soaring through blue skies, but for me, moments like this reveal their true character. Raw, wild, and completely at home in nature’s harshest conditions.

Sometimes the weather doesn’t ruin the shot… it creates it.

What do you think this Red Kite is saying with that stare? 👀🪶

🦅 A Moment of Majesty

Hidden amongst the pines, this stunning Red Kite sits quietly on watch, its unmistakable silhouette and striking colours standing out against the woodland backdrop.

With razor-sharp eyesight and effortless grace, these birds are a true symbol of how nature can recover when given the chance. Seeing one this close is always special, but taking a moment to appreciate the detail, the power, and the beauty of these incredible raptors is something else entirely.

Every encounter reminds me just how lucky we are to share our skies with them.
