A recent portrait session pushed a little further than the usual brief, less about formality, more about presence.
Krissy Monaghan brought a natural confidence and elegance to the frame, which made it easy to keep things stripped back and focused. Working with soft light and minimal direction, the shoot leaned into subtle expression and body language rather than heavy styling. The result is a set of portraits that I feel look polished but which still carry an edge, clean, composed, and just a touch bold.
This is the kind of portrait work I aim for: images that hold attention without trying too hard. There’s a balance between control and spontaneity, where small details, eye contact, posture, the way light falls, do most of the work.
Whether it’s for personal branding or something more editorial, the goal is always the same: create portraits that look refined, but still feel alive.
This shoot perhaps also marks the start of something broader.
The SKYE Style concept which I first visualised as a magazine-style cover, has the potential to develop into a dedicated project, possibly even a publication built around portrait and fashion work on the island.
The idea is simple: take the raw, distinctive aesthetic of Skye and shape it into something more editorial. These images feel like an early step in that direction, the beginning of a body of work that could define a recognisable island style and push it into a more polished, publishable space.
Just a thought but....
Watch this space.😁
