So today … the hottest day of the year so far … my mate Mark and I decided to visit Millers Wood in Surrey. It’s a place we have had on our “must visit“ list for a while. Despite the heat we had loads of little visitors including the Nuthatch which is a bird I have been after for a long time. We called it a day early afternoon because the birds have more sense than we have.

Unfortunately the moulting season has started so adult birds looked a little scruffy but there were plenty of juveniles around so all was not lost. I’ll post some more over the next few days.

The Bearded Reedling aka Bearded Tit. Captured at RSPB Rainham Marshes today. This is a difficult bird to photograph and I have been trying since I took up Wildlife Photography. Today we got lucky but it meant standing and waiting in the heat and the sun for them to pop up and feed. It was tiring and uncomfortable but it was worth it to get an image like this.

I believe that this is a juvenile male from the markings but they are similar to the adult female so if someone out there can confirm 100% for me I’d appreciate it. In the meantime please enjoy and I’ll post more later.

Every so often I get to a place where I have artistic block and I find editing difficult because I can’t get the images to look right. When this happens I take a break for a week or so and revisit. My camera has been in the Canon hospital for the last couple of weeks and I have stepped away to recharge. I got my camera back yesterday and started editing again this morning.

This Jay was photographed at on a recent visit and was captured in good even diffused light revealing lovely soft colours and textures. I’ll be back posting again soon so please enjoy this in the meantime. Thanks again to everyone for your support as it makes what I do worthwhile.

Following on from my last B&W post I thought I’d try it on different images to see what works and what doesn’t. This Squirrel image was captured earlier this week in Ireland at . I’m thinking of a small series of similar themed images going forward. What do you think? Leave a comment below.

Sorry for the second post today but I love this image. It’s not very often that I edit in B&W but I think it works well for this image of a Pine Marten captured earlier this week in Deerpark, Ballyfin where we spent a couple of days photographing Cuckoo’s, Red Squirrel and other wildlife. What do you think?
