A Night I’ll Never Forget… 🦡🦊
Some evenings in nature leave you speechless, and last night was one of those rare occasions.
I was fortunate enough to spend time photographing a young fox last night, the fox cub visited first before disappearing back into the night, and then after an hours silence two badgers emerged. As they quietly went about their business, the young fox cub reappeared.
At first, the cub was understandably wary. It paused at the edge of the pool, keeping its distance while watching the badgers carefully. Every movement was slow and deliberate, as though it was trying to decide whether it was safe to come any closer. The first photograph captures that moment perfectly—the two animals facing one another across the water, their reflections creating an almost mirror-like scene filled with curiosity and caution.
As the minutes passed, something magical happened. The fox’s confidence began to grow. Little by little, it edged closer until it was happily standing just a few feet from one of the badgers. The second photograph captures that wonderful transformation, with the cub now relaxed enough to share the same space as one of the badgers, quietly observing its unlikely companion.
Watching this unfold felt like witnessing one of nature’s untold stories. There was no aggression, no drama—just curiosity, respect and a peaceful coexistence between two beautiful wild animals.
Moments like these can’t be planned, and they certainly can’t be staged. They are a reminder that nature always has another story waiting to be told if we’re patient enough to watch.
To make the moment even more magical, whilst watching these amazing animals interact together, a barn owl flew over….a truly amazing spectacular to observe all at once.
I feel incredibly privileged to have witnessed—and photographed—this unforgettable encounter.
Nature never fails to surprise me… and nights like this are exactly why I love wildlife photography. ❤️📷
