Welcome to the official Heritage Photos page, based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, I specialise in Heritage Photgraphy, images of things that take us back to days gone by, whether it be a steam train, a vintage traction engine, or simply an item or object that brings back memories.

Hello, it's been a while since I posted any photos on here so what better way than an album of images from the superb Great Dorset Steam Fair.
The weather was incredible and the quality of exhibits on display was a sight to behold.
The special display this year was the "City of Lincoln Engines Special", which celebrated the 4 major manufacturer's that supplied numerous traction engines, excavators, locomotives and even cars.
The companies in question were, Clayton & Shuttleworth Ltd; William Foster & Co Ltd; Robey & Co Ltd; and finally Ruston & Hornsby Ltd. Sadly not much remains of these factories that supplied some amazing industrial machinery.
Luckily, the results of Lincoln's manufacturer's lives on today in preservation, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the engine owners who keep their pride and joy going and show them off during the summer months at the various Rallies here and abroad.

Last weekend I was at one of my favourite Steam Rallies of the season, Woodcote Rally. With over 50 full size and miniature steam engines, as well as a fine selection of vintage and classic tractors and cars, commercial and military vehicles.
Of special interest are Richard Hazell's 3 Sentinel Steam Waggons built originally in 1934, there is an S4, S6, and S8. These 3 Waggons aren't seen together too often, but are a rare treat to see together. Of special note is the S6 which is the only remaining one to survive of 154 built.
You can see them here and the rest of my photos from the Rally.

Clayton & Shuttleworth was founded in 1842, and started making portable steam engines in Lincoln in 1845. Portables were a gradual replacement for animals who's supplied the necessary power, for example to turn machinery on farms or work sites. Being portable they could be easily moved from site to site and were the forerunner to the moving Traction Engine as we know it today.
The recent Bedfordshire Steam & Country Fair had a celebration of 175 years of Clayton & Shuttleworth and there were many fine examples of their lovingly restored engines and products.
The event was at the Old Warden, the home of the Shuttleworth aircraft collection, and you can see some fine examples of the Traction Engines and other machinery in the album linked below.

Last weekend I was in Suffolk at the Weeting Steam Engine Rally. This is the 49th year of this popular Rally, and next year's 50th celebrations promise to be special.
This event at Ferngate Farm always has excellent displays of how things were done in the days of steam. There is stone crushing and road making, a timber yard display using Traction Engines to power sawbenches, not for the faint hearted or Health & Safety conscious. There are also many agricultural displays, threshing, and ploughing with a pair of Fowler BB1 Ploughing Engines, built originally as a pair in 1925.
How times have changed in the last 100 years.
Photos of my visit are linked below. Regards, Graham.

It's been a busy few weeks now the Steam Rally season is well underway.
Last weekend I was at the annual Strumpshaw Steam Engine Rally, which is always a great event. It is set in the beautiful grounds of Strumpshaw Hall near Norwich, and always attracts a wide selection of Steam and Vintage vehicles.
A few of the Steam attractions from the museum get the chance to venture out and display to the public as well.
There is also an opportunity to see the Heavy Horses that would have done most of the work on the farms, and
movement of goods around the countryside and towns, before Steam powered vehicles took over a lot of the heavy work.
You can see an album of my visit below.

A few weeks ago over the August Bank Holiday, I was at my favourite event in the Heritage calendar, 'The Great Dorset Steam Fair'. This annual pilgrimage for those who love all things Steam and Vintage, never fails to disappoint with an amazing array of Traction Engines and Vintage Vehicles.
Of particular interest was the restoration of a Foden Speed 6, and Foden Speed 12 Steam Wagons. They are a reminder of a time when steam was king of the road, and were the link between the growing rail network of the early 1930's and the end of the supply chain, be it shops or factories. Of course it wasn't long before diesel trucks were commonplace, and now nearly 100 years on we can admire these beautifully restored vehicles and imagine them helping to keep the country moving.
You can see my photos of these vehicles and many more by following the link below.

A couple of weeks ago I was at the Welland Steam & Country Rally. Set in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside, this is probably one of the best Steam Rallies of the year. There is always a fantastic selection of vintage exhibits including a rare working example of a Steam Crane which the Ross-On-Wye Steam Engine Society owns, and operates on its own length of track, it is used to move huge tree trunks on and off the steam powered saw benches.
There are also tractor pulling displays which are very popular with the public, and huge road making and Ploughing displays.

Last weekend I was at the Hollowell Steam & Heavy Horse Show near Northampton. This is always a great Rally to attend, and this year featured many of the surviving Allchin Traction Engines, which were manufactured locally by Wm Allchin Ltd at the Globe works in Northampton.
Sadly the factory is no longer in existence, but of those manufactured between 1847 - 1930, there were some beautifully restored engines present in a special display.
You can see images from my visit here.

Last weekend was the Fawley Vintage Festival at the home of Sir William McAlpine near Henley on Thames. This was my first visit there and it is a special place indeed. As well as the collection of animals that live at Fawley Hill, this weekend was a fantastic celebration for Sir William's 80th Birthday. There were dozens of Vintage and Classic cars, commercial vehicles, and an amazing selection of Traction Engines that any Steam Rally would be proud of.
There were also fly pasts and a display by the Red Devils. All in all a fantastic event in a beautiful setting, and a celebration of a by-gone era. You can see a few photos of a great day by clicking the link below. Regards, Graham.
