Only a couple of weeks until our next show at the 229 venue in London for the January Blues Festival 💙 on Saturday 3rd of January.

Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band will be our support act, so come on down for a double dose of music to blow those blues away!

I almost gave up on what I was actually good at.

Picture this; I'm getting ready to go photograph a band from San Francisco in Camden. I've got my babysitter sorted, I'm driving there & no idea what they look like - "they're the headline act", I'm told.
It's the late 90's.

I'm still studying my Masters in Fine Art as a single mother (well, widowed). I'm working part time as a photography lecturer and part time for 'Circuit' magazine, a 'live' music zine sent out to all the music venues in London.

* I'm trying my best to “do it right” but it's mainly male photographers I'm in competition with.
* I'm receiving less than intelligent comments about how to use my camera, by local punters & the band wants to do the shoot in the 'mens room' - "it's cool" they say.
* On the drive home, I've had enough - I'm exhausted. I've been living in London for just two years and think well that's it. Go back home - but then, I saw my photo (this one) a couple of days later... & everything changed.

Creeper Lagoon, from San Francisco - very sweaty, post gig but it works!

Circuit also printed my article on Formula 1 - a friend's band in the North West who played The Adelphi in Preston, along with a couple of photos - so I decided maybe, just maybe it's worth sticking around a while longer.

I'm still here & back to where I started!

Today's post for The Animals and Friends triple gig weekend this Friday 10th, 11th & 12th October 🇳🇱🇧🇪

The reason I do what I do is my passion for 'live' music
and creating interesting aesthetics for the band's social media content.

As someone with a fine art degree, it's not enough to just document a performance but to also be creative in the process.

This is what fires up the connection with the audience, to offer alternative ways of seeing and providing good quality visuals and sound.

It helps to know the songs well & where to direct the camera at specific moments to capture the talent and musicianship to the fullest.

It's certainly not glamorous, but the end results are worth the wait with a little editing in this case.
