Do you ever actually 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 an ABOUT section?

𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

No judgement... just curious.

When you're checking someone out on LinkedIn, let’s say a new connection or someone who’s just popped-up in your feed and seems interesting...

What’s your 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹?

Do you go straight to their 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 to get the full backstory?

Or do you scroll through their posts to see what they’re 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁?

Maybe you click through to their 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 for the full monty?

(And then instantly bounce out because it says “Welcome to our Solutions Ecosystem” and talks about "disciplined valuation frameworks with bottom-up focus on company fundamentals.")

Or maybe you go looking for the 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗷𝘂𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳!

Their 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 or 𝗫 or 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸, or even their 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸!

Cos you wanna find out if they’re a brilliant thought leader... or just someone who posts Minion memes and vague passive-aggressive digs at their ex.

Some people even check the 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. (Rare. Bold. Respect.)

𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂?

The carefully curated About?

The breadcrumb trail of content?

The home on the web?

𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆?

Admit it. You aren't like them. 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲!

You’ve probably spent years trying to 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻.

Playing the role. Wearing the blazer. Polishing LinkedIn.

Watching the same bland webinars and nodding along in meetings where nothing ever truly 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝗽.

Ever feel like people still think you're the person you were 10 years ago?

The one in your fuzzy profile pic shot on an iPhone 4, in terrible lighting, by that bloke from HR who “kinda knows Photoshop”.

Yeah - that one.

The ridiculous thing is... people don’t intentionally judge you based on your totally outdated headshot.

But unfortunately humans are:
1. totally visual, and
2. totally lazy

𝗦𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

And what's even worse... at that point, they think they’ve “got your vibe”, and that's it. You're judged. Locked in. 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿.

Whether or not that vibe is even remotely current.

So whilst you, and those who know you, know exactly how much you've changed, how much you’ve grown, and how you’re now this confident, capable, credible professional.

Your visuals are telling a very different story.

Ever tried to help someone find a train platform 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀?

Yeah. That was me last Monday.

Cappuccino in hand. Calm as a monk. Watching the departure board at London Kings Cross.

While my fellow HoLTie and ATOMICON attendee Lauren Smy was still legging it across East London like 𝗮 𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗯𝗹𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸!

She was seconds from Olympic-level panic.

I was seconds from live-streaming it for content!

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀𝗔𝗽𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱:

“I’ll be the red-faced woman with a bright pink top and a too-heavy backpack leaping onto the train just as the doors close.”

“Just relax. Stay Zen. What’s the worst that can happen?”

(Answer: No platform info. Train gone. Emotional damage. But we got there.)

And I realised something...

When we show up to these events, racing, flustered, slightly chaotic, we still 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.

Because sometimes the hardest bit isn’t the networking or the learning...

𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻.

So here’s your Thursday reminder:

You don’t have to glide in gracefully.

You just have to 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱.

100 new ideas, 3 hours of voice notes… and a stinking virus!

I took the train to Newcastle last Monday, buzzing for 𝗔𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗖𝗢𝗡!

And lucky me, for the entire train journey home, I was sat in front of someone who coughed 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽!

(Yes, I now know exactly how fast airborne transmission works.)

So if you’ve been wondering why I haven’t posted about my ATOMICON adventure yet…

(Or if we connected there and I’ve been conspicuously absent from your DMs)

𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝘆!

I’ve been virtually bedridden since I got home. 𝗧𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝗽𝗲-𝗼𝘂𝘁.

Which is a shame, because ATOMICON was 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁.

A lot of events promise transformation.

Most deliver networking fatigue, face-ache and a tote bag full of regret.

This one? 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.

I went in thinking I’d learn a couple of cool tips.

I came out with a 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲.

- Why I do what I do.
- Who I really want to serve.
- What I need to STOP doing immediately.

Because spending two days with creators, misfits, mentors and rebels who genuinely care about making a difference?

It wakes something up in you.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝗽.

So here I am, finally upright again, and here’s my question to you:

When was the last time you stepped out of your routine and let yourself be 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗱?

𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧!

“I never thought I’d be looking for a brand photographer. But I'm glad that when I did, I found Steve.”

That’s how Craig started his testimonial.

And honestly? 𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁.

Because let's face it: most people don’t include a personal brand shoot in their strategy.

They just get to a point where they’re sick & tired of posting dodgy selfies on LinkedIn!

(Or simply can’t stand that their expertise is 10x more impressive than their profile pic!)

The shoot itself? 𝗧𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁.

Craig turned up as “a somewhat scruffy designer who actually left the house for the day.” (His words!)

And left with a suite of personal brand images full of personality, humour and subtle confidence.

(He was supposed to choose 8 images. He ended up buying 12.)

Because when the images 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 like you? You stop second-guessing how you look.

You just post with pride, knowing they reflect who you are and how you show up.

Ever attended a networking event… and left with a handful of killer headshots?

Here’s what most people get wrong about great headshots:

they think it’s all about lighting, lenses and backdrops.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁…

A couple of weeks ago I went to a networking event in central London: Grow With Intent, run by the brilliant Michelle Wright.

It was totally buzzing! Amazing atmosphere. Great people. Proper connections.

I wasn’t even there to shoot - just to chat, connect, mingle.

But I had my camera with me (because of course I did).

So I snapped a few casual frames of everyone mingling.

And then - randomly and completely spontaneously - I ended up shooting a few headshots.

No studio. No prep. No lights. Just a wall, a laugh, and a little trust.

And the results?

𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘅𝗲𝗱. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁. 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲. 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.

The kind of headshots that work, because they feel real.

Just ask Rita Goodhead, Hannah Hoang and Mellisa C. Haynes!

These weren’t “pose-and-pray” shots. There were no awkward angles or “say cheese” moments.

What made them great wasn’t the gear. It was the conversation before the click.

𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

So… next time you’re planning a shoot (or dreading one) remember this:

It’s not about “getting your photo taken.”

𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻.

Seen by someone who knows how to 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲, and release the shutter 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲.

That’s the magic I bring to every shoot, whether it’s a full-day branding session or 30 seconds (literally) at a networking event!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁’𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀!

I remember the exact moment this shot was taken.

My client, Simone, had just burst out laughing after saying, “I actually look like I know what I’m doing!"

That’s when I knew this was the image that would help transform her brand.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗢 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲.

Simone was brilliant at what she did. But her photos? They didn’t quite match.

Look… I’m a personal brand photographer, but I’m going to say it anyway:

A fabulous brand image won’t fix what’s broken underneath.

You can’t just book a photoshoot, throw on a cool blazer, cross your arms, and suddenly look like a leader.

Well, you 𝘤𝘢𝘯…

but if your offer’s a mess, your client experience is clunky, and you secretly don’t believe in what you’re doing, those photos won’t help.

In fact, they’ll just shine a light on the disconnect.

𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿. 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗸.

It needs to reflect who you 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 are, not who you’re pretending to be.

So if your business is stuck…
your client experience is confusing…
your values are fuzzy and your vision feels off…

You don’t need better pictures.

When I start work with you, if you don’t already have a Pinterest board, I create one for you, and instruct you to start pinning 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘆𝗲.

Images, colours, moods, photography styles. The key is not to overthink it, just save anything that speaks to you.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻, 𝘄𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘀. Do certain tones keep showing up? A specific aesthetic? A storytelling style that resonates?

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆, 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 & 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲. We strip away anything that feels “meh” and keep only what 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘺 fits your vibe.
