I have been very fortunate to capture the Squinty bridge aka The Clyde Arc from so many angles over the years. So if you ever want to ask me my favourite landmark in Glasgow, well here is the answer
Little bit about the bridge
The Clyde Arc, better known as Glasgow’s “Squinty Bridge” is one of the city’s most iconic modern landmarks. Opened in 2006, the bridge crosses the River Clyde at a noticeable angle rather than straight across, which is exactly how it earned its famous nickname.
Designed as part of Glasgow’s waterfront regeneration, the bridge connects Finnieston with Pacific Quay and Govan, linking some of the city’s biggest attractions including the SEC Armadillo, OVO Hydro, and Glasgow Science Centre. Its striking steel arch and futuristic design have made it a symbol of modern Glasgow and a favourite photo spot, especially at sunset or when illuminated at night.
Locals are known for giving landmarks playful nicknames — and alongside the “Squinty Bridge,” Glasgow also has the nearby “Squiggly Bridge.” Together they’ve become part of the city’s character and skyline.
