Some recent favourite misc photos of recent adventures 🩷

I like to take photos as much as I can by always bringing my camera on any and all adventures you never know what you’ll spot.

The biggest problem I find with this is I horde photos! I will happily keep many for a few years (my longest record being 6 years before having a sort out! Are you a photo hoarder?

Last week I was working with hannahscreatures (Hannah's Creatures) to capture the life of her work on these three peacocks. This set featured three inquisitive, and fun Indian blues, all three had different personalities, one alert by something behind them, another in a more relaxed state looking right and my personal favourite, the right facing caller! All three had beautiful details from the placement of each feather right to the colour of the eyes and muscle structure in their necks.

Hannah is a lovely local taxidermy artist in Felixstowe, Suffolk and her speciality is working with birds. Being a bird owner herself cares about how the birds were found, to ensure no birds are from illegal hunting. Hannah works alongside local agencies to make sure all taxidermy is legally tagged, processed and checked with DEFRA. Hannah herself is self taught and has been working with taxidermy for ten years, but has been professional for the past six.

On this shoot we had a number of challenges. The weather was going through a rapid cycle resulting in fast moving clouds covering and uncovering the sun, as well as the odd spots of rain also making threats of downpour! None the less we persisted and with Hannah’s determination and strength we managed to climb multiple sets of stairs to find each individual birds perfect location that reflected their unique characteristics.

I’ve always enjoyed working with dynamic lighting, and there’s no better way to learn about how to do this than picking up something (this can be anything as I’ll show you below)!

Lighting around us is always changing depending on many factors, such as room light, sunlight, windows, artificial lighting (such as light bulbs or even blue light from phones) and so many more just to list a few.

I find lighting to be one of my favourite ‘toys’ to play with, you can experiment with multiple types of lighting through back lighting, the suns natural lighting and even children’s sensory toys to create more dynamic engaging photo. Sunlight adds a glow or frame to a subject where as artificial light from sensory toys have added a sharper point of focus on a photo to enhance a subjects details. Flashlights can create a harsher spotlight on a single point or if used correctly can illuminate an entire scene / landscape.

With that being said please enjoy some pictures where I’ve utilised this technique!

Last Sunday the world of learning got alot more exciting! visited a homeschooling group to educate them on the world of the vikings. Children got to try on and experience viking armour and weapons before singing songs with the local bard Olaf. Over all the day was a resounding success with feedback being overwhelmingly good including parents stating that even they had the opportunity to learn something new.

While visiting the Orchard Campsite children of this home schooling group got to witness and cheer for their favourite Norsemen from Óðinns Raven Guard as they completed a combat demonstration and educated them about the different types of weapons used from the Nordic period. In this time they also reminded children how they are trained professionals and the weapons used for the reenactment were made safe and blunt and not to copy these acts at home.

Some of the weapons the children got to see in action were swords, iron axes, a dane axe, spears and sheilds. The children also had a chance to make their own shields and take part in a shield wall against the king himself.

Overall the day was a brilliant success where everyone adults and children alike went home having learnt something new and having had the chance to get up close and personal in the historic time of the vikings.

Recently had the pleasure of getting to witness a group of young enthusiastic learners immerse themselves in the world of the vikings!

Óðinns Raven Guard provided a day of rich heritage with opportunities for children to make their own shields, sing nordic songs with a bard and even try on and hold reenactment weapons and armour to fully step back in time.

The laughter shared through the day by both adults and children alike was only interrupted by impressive questions and gasps of awe during the day’s demonstrations creating an unforgettable atmosphere filled with joy and wonder by all.
