My favourite part of group shoots is the strange, overwhelming thought that every person standing in front of my camera has followed an entirely different path to get here.
Different countries, backgrounds, pasts. Different ages. Different lives. Thousands of choices, accidents, turns taken and turns missed — all somehow leading to the same room, on the same day, dressed as people from another century.
In another timeline, perhaps none of us would ever have met.
And yet, somehow, here we are.
For a few hours, all those separate stories become one. And I get to make a photograph of the exact moment they cross 🖤

The hills will remember us 🖤

Some days exist only to be remembered in fragments. I no longer remember the road in the Borders that brought us there — only the mist clinging to the hills, the music drifting through the air, the blurred echoes of our conversations, and how we somehow became part of the landscape, dressed in the same reds, greens and browns as the land around us.

I often think that being a photographer changes the shape of friendship. Your friends become your muses, your muses become your friends, and ordinary afternoons are replaced with impossible adventures.

We’ve almost drowned in a bog, danced on the edge of a cliff, driven through the night at 3 a.m. for yet another strange idea, and nearly frozen in a loch in the middle of January simply because the story demanded it.

Yet somehow, after all these years...

we’ve still never had a pizza together.

There is always another windstorm to chase, another idea to bring to life, another story to tell.

One day we’ll probably sit down and have that pizza. I almost hope we don’t make it there just yet.

May the hills remember us long before we ever remember to book a table.
