You can be doing everything right and still not have a full calendar.

And that’s normal. You can’t always brute force your way into landing campaigns, retainers, or even one-offs.

Just move the needle in the right direction each day and in the mean time work on things that need improving in your business.

If you want to know what sort of stuff you should be focusing on then comment SHIFT and I’ll send you my free video workshop where I breakdown what parts of your creative business yields the most return.

Everything works out in the end - just trust in yourself and in the process.

Have a great weekend.

I go to the gym 4x a week and run twice on top of that.

Sounds impressive - or unnecessary? Depends who you ask I guess.

My mate thinks it's too much, but then instagram tells me if I'm not casually competing in Ironman's then what's the bloody point?

What hardly anyone talks about running a video production agency is that it’s a really physical job.

Not in the “I’m a professional athlete” kind of way (although that would be nice).

But more “I’ve just carried 2 heavy pelican cases and 3 C-stands up four flights of stairs and we’re shooting in 12 minutes” sort of way.

Sometimes lifts don’t work. Sets don’t build themselves. And the client isn’t waiting for you to catch your breath before starting recording.

All the while you need to look composed, like you know what you're doing, remembering the script, remembering to hit the record button (never happened, promise).

So I train, not for aesthetics. Not for Hyrox. But because my job literally demands it.

I want to be able to still do this at 50 without my knees pinging off to the moon, or my back giving way holding a bloody gopro.

That’s the honest reason.

The less honest reason is it keeps my mind straight.

That’s something I’ll go into more next time

Sometimes you have to take it slow to appreciate the beauty of these machines.

I most captured photography, but captured some 100fps shots here and there.

Next time I’m thinking about sourcing a or Ember, as I want true slow motion rather than relying on Davinci AI.

Could be a lot of fun if nothing else - what do you think?

You have enough work in your portfolio already.

Your focus should now be on getting it in front of the right people.

Something I cover in my free video workshop. Comment “SHIFT” and I’ll send it to you.

You can be just as creative & make just as much money as a generalist
with a caveat.

12/05/2026

Niches get riches, but only if it does the job of attracting the right clients.

Just picking a niche doesn’t automatically give you a leg up over the market.

If a generalist position themselves as a results-focused service they’ll make just as much if not more than someone who just states they are a “motorsport videographer” in their bio.

It requires more than just a claim, and so I’ve made a video workshop where I break down how to find your niche, position it in your favour & get the most out of your passion.

Comment “SHIFT” and I’ll send it over.

You don’t stop being a creative when you decide to run your business like an agency.

It just means you stop waiting for work to randomly come to you and start implementing 1-2 systems that attract the right people with the right budgets.

I’ve filmed a free video workshop where I break down the ‘formal & boring’ stuff into things you can implement quickly & easily.

Comment “SHIFT” and I’ll send you the workshop.

Cold outreach is dead.

At least, cold outreach with no effort to build a relationship, offer actual help or showcase any sort of value
is dead.

I’m not saying you sit back and wait for clients to come to you.

But rather be proactive in you/your business’s presentation so when that connection is made, the conversation is a whole lot easier.

In my free workshop I lay out outreach methods that are simple to follow & implement. Just comment “SHIFT” and I’ll send it to you.

The only way to overcome imposter syndrome is to embrace it.

It’s part of what we do. We constantly want to get better, to be better.

Knowing it’s going to have some sort of impact with every new project allows you to spend time and energy on what really matters - the shoot, the delivery, the relationship with the client.

These are all things I dive into in my free video workshop. Comment “SHIFT” and I’ll send you the link.

One of the best skillsets you can develop is articulation.

It’s fun to work on your camera skills, framing, editing.

But to get to that point you need a project, and that isn’t always dependant on how technically skilled you are.

Rather it’s convincing the prospect you can produce their vision better than anyone else.

Part of my free video workshop goes through how you can interpret and portray this articulation to help you close more projects.

Comment “SHIFT” and I’ll send it you.

This is for all you solo operators out there.

It’s hard - but what isn’t these days?

Moving the needle.

Getting 1% better every day.

Even just showing up.

You’re doing it the right way. So treat yourself every now and then.

And no - I don’t mean buying a new camera.
