All cloud at home so drove to the coast hopeful I might catch the aurora. Lucky for me the skies cleared a little, though still hazy and washed out by the crescent moon, I was able to spot aurora, stars and the Milky Way. These are more 'creative shots' as I'm working on improving composition and foreground. Also testing a remote shutter to try and sharpen the images. The location at St Tudno's on the Great Orme offered both a chapel and church to photograph. Another place to revisit on a darker, moonless night!

I had scoped this place out for night sky potential and it didn't disappoint. Nothing particularly stand out in the constellations; the Milky Way is peeking out (this will get more prominent through Spring/Summer/Autumn), and Orion is nice and clear. The constellation of Lepus (the hare) is nearly all visible at the bottom of the wind turbines. I was blown away by the reflections on the lake though, I've never seen stars reflect like this, Orion very clear upside down on the water as well as the bright stars Procyon and Sirius. Lovely!

I love architecture, ruins and silhouettes in photography so had to try out this location. Unfortunately there was a lot of light pollution from nearby Ruthin (looking through the doorway), but I still managed to capture some stars in the night sky looking South. Jupiter is shining brightly on the top left, followed by the top of Orion moving right, and the obvious cluster of Pleiades in the middle right. Was very lucky as the sky then clouded over! I'll go back there and try looking North on a starry night. Also want to try light painting the ruin. Watch this space!

A clear night last night (4th March) with a very bright 'Worm Moon'! Almost a full moon too. Very difficult to see the stars when they're washed out by moonlight but I was keen to try and spot the Cancer Constellation. Even cooler is that right in the middle is an open star cluster called the Beehive Cluster (also has other names) which is 600 light years away, contains some nice coloured stars, and even planets orbiting stars. Wonder what is out there 👽 Probably this would be a good one to look at with a telescope on a darker night

After 16 days and nights of cloud, finally a few stars to see on Friday 13th February! I was hoping to spot the Gemini constellation in the south, which turned out fairly easy given how bright Jupiter appears at this time of the year. The Milky Way bisected the image, and it was also nice to see the equilateral triangle of Sirius, Procyon and Betelgeuse below. I can recommend the guidebook in picture 4 as it tells you what to spot month-by-month. Also the Stellarium app which provided picture 2. Go out and have a look south when it is clear - it is a new moon in the next few days so the sky will be nice and dark 🌙🌑💫

The moon was very bright tonight but it was clear for the first time in over a week so worth taking the camera out. I really like this new location as I'm wanting to show starlight reflecting in water, and the water is very still here. Will go back when it's a darker night 🌙 ✨️

Part 2: Mad dash to Talacre to try and beat the heavy cloud coming in from the West. Aurora was still going strong and the colours changed rapidly in half an hour. Cool place!

Part 1: Development of aurora last night over 20 minutes. It was so big I couldn't fit it all in the frame! Not in the best location but glad I caught some of the main show. Colours are as seen through my camera, it was so bright you could see it the naked eye.

On this beautiful 'New Moon' (moonless) night full of stars, I took a moment to think about Dad who died 5 years ago today with Covid. I wonder what happens when we all pop off, I'd like to think I'll be floating around up there somewhere.

Anyway, here's a nice easy asterism to find - the Winter Triangle. This evening about 9pm it was roughly South East, and pretty easy to locate between the bright planet Jupiter and Orion. An asterism is a pattern of stars that can be spotted, possibly containing stars from different constellations. Thanks to Stellarium for the last image. Happy star gazing! 💫
