Garden Guests & Coastal Comrades (A Bird Showcase) 🐦🪶✨

Time for another round of local bird spotting! 📸✨ I love pointing the camera at the variety of birds that call our gardens, fields, and coasts home. This set features a real mix of the classic personalities and the specialist visitors we see around South Wales:

✨ Magpie: The elegant, bold character with that flashing iridescent black and white plumage.
🏡 Sparrow: A true garden staple—the bustling, social little chatterbox!
🌬️ Swallow: A flash of pure speed, showing off those long tail streamers as it swoops for insects.
💙 Great Tit: Bringing those striking black and yellow contrast lines (and that big attitude!).
🤍 Long-Tailed Tit: Basically a tiny pink-and-white fluffy ball with a really long tail. Adorable acrobats!
🌾 Meadow Pipit: A master of camouflage amongst the local grasses, perfect for the uplands and fields.
🌊 Redshank: Bringing that pop of bright orange-red to the muddy estuaries and coasts.

From our back gardens to the open water, there’s always something new and beautiful to spot on a walk! 🦅🌿

Turning the lens skyward for a couple of shots of our nearest celestial neighbor—the Moon! 📸🌕

There’s something endlessly fascinating about pointing a long lens into the night sky and pulling out all those crisp, cratered details on the lunar surface. From the dark basaltic plains (the "seas") to the sharp rimmed impact craters catching the light along the shadow line, the texture up close is unreal.

Whether it’s glowing bright through a clear night air or hanging soft in the evening sky, capturing the moon always brings a great sense of wonder to the portfolio!

Sitting right on our doorstep between Monmouthshire and Torfaen, this place is an absolute gem for a walk, whether you're catching the calm reflections across the vast open water, watching the watersports, or just spotting the local birdlife along the shoreline.

There's something so relaxing about the contrast between the deep blue water, the surrounding green hills, and those big open Welsh skies on a clear day. An absolute must-visit spot when you need to recharge the batteries and grab some fresh air!

Rising dramatically out of the landscape near Abergavenny, Skirrid is famous for its distinctive jagged profile, created by a massive prehistoric landslide that split the mountain's north end.

The climb up through the woodland and along the ridge is worth every step once you reach the summit. On a clear day, those 360-degree views stretching across the Black Mountains, the Brecon Beacons, and out over the Usk Valley are pure Welsh landscape magic!

You can’t walk the South Wales hills and mountains without getting the eye from a few curious sheep along the way. Getting in nice and close to capture that textured, woolly coat, the wise look in their eyes, and that unbothered, chew-chew-chew rhythm is always a brilliant moment.

It’s giving pure main character energy, and the local cormorants were not having it! 📸😂

Shot 1: A Grey Heron makes a grand, uninvited landing right in the middle of the Cormorant VIP Lounge like they own the place. 🕶️✨

Shot 2: Total dynamic chaos! The cormorants immediately form a hype squad (or an angry mob?), wings flapping everywhere, squawking, and making sure the heron knows exactly who runs this stretch of water. 🦅💥

Shot 3: Victory pose! The heron decides to vacate the premises, leaving one very proud cormorant striking a dramatic T-pose with wings spread wide, soaking up the applause. 🪶👑

As Britain’s largest dragonfly, these brilliant creatures are absolute powerhouses in the air. Catching one at rest to lock in on that electric sapphire-blue body, apple-green thorax, and intricate net-like wing pattern is a real treat for macro photography.

Those massive, iridescent compound eyes give them near 360-degree vision as they patrol their aquatic territories. Up close, the sheer complexity of their wings and armor is nothing short of breathtaking engineering!

Few sights beat watching these magnificent raptors holding court over our countryside. Whether catching thermals high overhead with broad wings outstretched against the open sky, or keeping a sharp lookout from a high perch along the fields, they bring a real touch of wild majesty to the local landscape.

Getting close enough to lock focus on that piercing gaze, rich mottled brown plumage, and impressive wingspan is always a thrill for the camera!

Bringing one of our absolute favorite garden acrobats to the lineup—the brilliant, feisty Blue Tit! 📸⚡

These little garden regulars are non-stop energy, constantly flitting between branches, flipping upside down on twigs, and showing off those unmistakable electric blue caps, bright yellow bellies, and dark eye stripes.

Trying to freeze-frame them for long enough to catch those pin-sharp feather details is always a brilliant test of speed and patience, but catching that cheeky personality in the lens makes it totally worth it!
