At the end of January, we decided to visit Dubai. As proper Londoners who like to share, we brought with us rain. We heard that they don't have enough of it. Luckily for us, it had been raining only 2 days since we arrived.
Dubai is full of places to visit and activities to choose from, but one was stuck in my head.
Desert Safari is one of the main activities in UEA that you need to find a place on your have-to-do list. I could not leave Dubai without being on the ocean of sand. That could not happen.
We say the desert as it is one creation, but the truth is that many deserts exist in UAE. To give you a few examples;
β The Arabian Desert, also known as the Empty Quarter or Rub Al Khali - is located in the south-western portion of the UAE, within the emirate of Abu Dhabi
β Al Khatim Desert - located between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain
β Mleiha Desert- located in the central region of Sharjah.
Desert Safari is a pack of activities taking place in...desert.
What is included and the price depends on your chosen option.
Usually, that covers a dune-bashing, camel rides, horse rides, a picture with Falcone, quads ride, a dance show and a barbeque dinner.
We chose the option where in addition to the items listed above, was included overnight staying and buffet. It cost about 350 dirhams per person.
I am not going to lie. I was super excited. I am a person who usually does not show much emotion, but inside I was jumping for joy.
We were picked up from where we were staying on the activity day. The driver was friendly. The most annoying situation was when we paid for the activity, and he still needed to give us a change. After 30 minutes, he gave us half of the change because he decided he deserved the tip. Later, the same person organized other activities and stayed overnight. All that was included in the pack we paid for, and that driver still came to ask for more tips. My advice is to give the exact amount of money. It should be your decision if you give money and how much you want to give.
We spend around an hour in the car and reach our destination. We saw the camp and animals, but it was not time to leave the vehicle.
Our first activity was dune bashing. Dune bashing involves driving a 4x4 across the sandy dunes of the barren land.
Only specially qualified and skilled drivers can do this activity with tourists. Also, the car needs to be prepared for that before we can move on. So first, the driver let half of the air out of the tires, then coated the tires with oil.
After that prepared, we went to the dunes.
I did not expect what was to come...
