INCREDIBLE electrical storm overnight, with what must have been thousands of flashes between 23:15 - 03:30

It's been a few years since a display like this, and I only got a small part of the action from here because it was dozens and dozens of miles away! Still impressive to see mind.

Olivia.
My moon & star (and cat...) loving little girl, walking through a gorgeous field of bluebells.

we go to this lovely spot annually, and this year was just perfect for a few nice images.

It's been AGES since I posted a wildlife photo!

This Black-crowned Night Heron visited my local birding patch in April, and is only the second one I've seen here. This was taken late evening, in fact I was still taking images well after sunset, with long exposures.

I've been unlucky with weather lately, nearly all of the UK has enjoyed relentless clear night sky over recent weeks, and my corner of East Devon has had absolutely none! I really hope I can get some astro done this Spring, before the lighter nights of Summer are here.

Something a bit different...

That moon image with Pleiades nearby from a couple evenings ago, this is what they look like in terms of position and scale!

a VERY rare composite image from me, with the moon blended over an older deep space image of the Pleiades cluster / Seven Sisters. All in the correct positions and sizes compared to the other night, but composited to show both objects clearly.

Crescent Moon & Pleiades last night

Single exposure taken at 318mm (then cropped a bit), 4s, f7.1, ISO 500. Venus was shining brightly underneath this too, a lovely sight through the thin cloud.

I'll put a deep space image of the Pleiades cluster that features below the moon in this pic, in the comments below. It's a breath-taking bit of sky!

M81 Bode's Galaxy, M82 Cigar Galaxy, many other galaxies, and a lot of IFN (integrated flux nebulae).

Imaged over the last 3 months, with 43 hours of unfiltered data from my ZWO 2600MC colour camera, with a little bit of old Ha data added for the reds.

you may have seen a close-up of the bigger galaxy in the middle of this image taken through my big scope a long time ago! This wider view with all that dusty stuff is fascinating.

- What a STUNNING field of view! -

Flaming Star Nebula & co. I recently took delivery of a full frame astro camera and somehow, actually had some clear skies to do some testing with it! Regrettably it looks like it'll probably have to go back, but I was pleased to get this image done with it...

The area on show in this image is LARGE. Full frame camera taken through a telescope with 250mm focal length. A full moon would appear a similar size to the blob in the top right...

just 18 hrs data in this, but a solid test of the camera! Here's to more clear skies ✨

πŸŒ“ One of my favourite moon phases πŸŒ“

First quarter moon at 54.5%. A brief gap in the clouds allowed me to grab a few frames of the moon a couple evenings back. Taken with Sony camera & lens.

it's been a while since I've posted a close up moon image! I find the craters when the moon is 30-70% illuminated so interesting to look at.

🦞 Lobster Claw Nebula & friends 🦞

What a fascinating part of the night sky! I have imaged this approximate field of view before, back in 2022 but with a dual band filter on a colour camera, so I thought I'd try a mono version.

Taken over a period of 3 months this Winter, with a total of 30.5 hours of data:
Ha: 72 x 600s = 12 hrs
Sii: 51 x 600s = 8.5 hrs
Oiii: 60 x 600s = 10 hrs

Spaghetti Nebula Sh2-240 πŸ”
My first deep space image posted in 2026!

This supernova remnant, estimated at a distance of 3000 light years away, is absolutely huge in terms of the area of sky it occupies through a camera. A full moon in this field of view would only occupy about 1/6 of the width of the nebula, so probably only about 3% of the size in terms of imaging from Earth!

4 months of imaging & effort went into this, with 58hrs 40mins total integration.
