I'm pleased to say that this image has won Birdguides Photo of the Week!

This Red-necked Phalarope was present at Seaton Wetlands for a couple of days at the tail end of August, and is the first ever record of this species for my local patch here.

It was a very busy bird, and I was trying to get a different/interesting pic of it... needless to say I was quite happy when I saw this moment happen. I'm sure the fly wasn't though 😂

YES!!! A moment I've tried to capture for years. Decades in fact.

An Osprey. Eyes fixed, talons outstretched, about to dive into the water and catch its prey. We're currently at peak Osprey migration time for us here in southern UK, with some of these impressive birds stopping off near the coast to feed up before setting off on the next part of their journey south.

I have a whole series of images from this incredible encounter, a couple more of them may have to find their way onto here soon 🦅

Well, that was a long night.
Partial lunar eclipse this morning, taken at 05:13 from Seaton, Devon, UK.

This is just a single frame with settings of 1s, f5.6 at ISO 500, but I did take multiple frames for stacking, so will be able to produce something of much higher quality later. What a fantastic month August has turned out to be for photography.

Perhaps my proudest deep space image in my 4 year journey of pointing telescopes at the sky 🔭

This is an absolutely stunning region of the night sky, showing the Flying Bat & Squid Nebulae, Fireworks Galaxy, and with a whole field full of dusty stuff.

this is by far and away my biggest ever astro project, with over 242 hours of data, taken in approximately 70 imaging sessions. That's 70 full set-ups and take-downs of the imaging rigs, for this one image! I hope you like it.

I'll put some technical details for the acquisition in the comments below, for those interested. It's rather involved!

what an incredible, incredible experience. I've just returned home at 6am after spending the full evening & night taking pics of the partial solar eclipse followed by the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. Thousands of images to look through, but I thought I'd leave this one here now, before I go for a much-needed nap!

SOLAR ECLIPSE - tomorrow!

Well, the forecast is looking sublime! Whether or not reality will be...
Millions of people will be hoping to see a part of this event tomorrow, and from the UK here, this'll be the last 'good one' during my lifetime.

good luck to all who are hoping to get a glimpse, and especially to those who've long planned a trip to observe it at totality.
