Hi everyone - I am just advising of a couple of photography learning sessions I am running for the Staffordshire Photography Group. There is a Beginners Course at Jacksons Marsh/Jacksons Coppice on May 13 th and a Wildlife Session at Gentleshaw on May 20th. These courses are under the remit of the Staffordshire Photography Group. Details and bookings can be made here. https://staffordshirephotographygroup.co.uk. I have attached some images from previous sessions

Hi Everyone - just a tip for those that don't know - if you are going to shoot the snowy scenes. When any camera is metering it assumes that average light will be 12% grey (a shade between white and black (obviously much nearer white). So often (depending on how much snow is in your image) they will appear darker than you see. To compensate you have to increase the exposure (amount of light coming into the camera) for the image - ie reduce the shutter speed, use a wider aperture or increase the ISO. Happy shooting.

Hi Everyone - a lot has happened since I last posted. We have moved to Church Stretton (an idyllic location with walks up the Shropshire Hills right from the front door). I am also now instructing for the Staffordshire Photography Group who have their own FB group page and website

https://staffordshirephotographygroup.co.uk/

As part of my role in the Staffordshire Photography Group, I run beginners sessions as well as wildlife and landscape meet ups. All good fun

I will seek to add my instructive posts to that group to this page.

Outside of that i will also be running outdoor photography sessions on the Shropshire Hills for small groups or 1—2—1s - details will soon be on my website www.peteryoungs.co.uk.

I hope also to offer bird photography from a set up I am creating at home. Still trialling the set-up at the moment but so far so good see Image below.

Happy New Year to Everyone - Hope everyone is well and enjoyed the strange Christmas we had this year. Thoughts especially are with everyone in the UK where we are having a pretty torrid time with Covid and Lockdown No3.

I took this landscape a week or so ago on a -5C morning that had a wonderfully picturesque Hoar Frost. Hope you like it.

Also I am looking to improve my website for 2021 so am seeking feedback - what's good (that people like) and what's not good (needs improvement) - would be very grateful for anyone who can take the time to view and then message me with their comments.

Happy Christmas to every one and thanks for looking at my posts. I wanted to share a couple of photos for you to enjoy for the festive period .

The first is a favourite from one of our two visits to New Zealand. This is of Lake Wakatipu with Mount Larkins behind - the location is just south of Glenorchy. The full image can be found on my website in this gallery https://www.peteryoungs.co.uk/prints/landscapes-from-around-the-world/

The second photo is of a native red squirrel taken sitting in a sunbeam at the Formby Reserve. This is available as a greeting card and can be found here on my website https://www.peteryoungs.co.uk/prints/greeting-cards/wildlife-greeting-cards/

Take care all and stay safe Peter

Good evening all - I though I would share this lovely image of a male kestrel on a tree stump perch. Its not easy getting close enough to photograph these raptors as their eyesight is amazing - reportedly they can see a beetle at 50m from a perch!!.

The males are smaller than the females and have the grey head. I also have a beautiful photograph of a stunning female kestrel which can be seen here:

I hope you like the images - take care all

Hi To Everyone - sorry to have been away for so long but have had issues with my personal FB account which is currently suspended (long story and argument with FB). Anyway in the meantime, I have been off photographing in the Lake District (will share that later) but also to a Kingfisher hive. Over a 7 hour period we had 6 or 7 visits mainly from the female (it has an orange underside to its beak) but we also got one visit from the male (pictured in this post).

I have created a Kingfisher collection of greeting cards which can be seen at https://www.peteryoungs.co.uk/prints/greeting-cards/kingfisher-greeting-cards/.

There are also other kingfisher images to be seen on my website in these links:

Good evening everyone - My Image of the Week this week is a young Cormorant in the midst of its take off skimming across the water. It was the unusual almost dragon like position of the wings that appealed to me. The photo was taken from around 60m away on a cliff top at Hilbre Island on Monday.

Hilbre Island is one of three small islands (Hilbre is the largest) in the Dee Estuary that is cut off form the mainland for around 6 hours over the High Tide. You can walk to it (from West KIrby on the Wirral) at Low Tide across the silt/sand of the estuary. It takes around an hour each way and its a hard slog in wellies with 25kgs of camera gear!! However, now I have seen the photos it was well worth it. I stayed for around 5 hours over the high tide. The Dee Estuary is one of the most prolific for bird life in the UK. Hilbre used to be inhabited full time but now it is just a few holiday rentals and a bird observatory. Well worth a visit - but plan your trip and look at the tide tables.

Good afternoon everyone - sorry I missed posting last week but weather has not been that conducive to photography. My IMAGE THIS WEEK is of a Dunnock - a touch of the Velociraptor about this pose - methinks. Hope you like the image. Stay safe and have a great week.

Good Day All - those in the UK will be enjoying one of the few spells of warm weather this summer although it is on the balmy side.

This week's IMAGE OF THE WEEK is reflective of harvest time which has just started in earnest around Bishops Offley. This vista (from Main Road towards Bishops Offley) is a perennial favourite of mine. Once baled the bales are only there for two or three days before getting carted off for storage as winter feed. Consequently its a question of what lighting/weather opportunities offer themselves up during that short period. I was lucky enough to be there just after dawn and to catch the bales catching the sunlight during the golden hour. I hope you like it.

Good day all - hope you have a great week - the weather has been better of late. This week's IMAGE OF THE WEEK is sunrise over the pond at Adbaston Farm Pond. It was a fine day around 9 days ago but unusually for this time of year (late July at the time) - the temperature was sub 4C at dawn triggering my ice warning from the car!. Still it meant that the steam/mist was rising from the pond to give the image that extra surreal appeal. Take care all and stay safe
