A wood mouse chasing off the tawny owl? Not quite true. The tawny obviously missed the mouse and flew off just as the mouse took further evasive manoeuvres almost jumping into the owl. I just love what comes up from the trail cameras.

It's always worth waiting for a magical visit from a fox cub. Still visiting in good light although with shortening day length it won't be long before photography will become quite difficult. Last night I waited for the badgers until 10pm by then my camera refused to cooperate. It was lovely to watch their antics in the failing light.

A young badger taking it easy and grooming until later when two badgers decide to sit on and scentmark. This is really common practice with these marvellous creatures reinforcing their clan bonds.

Claire and I had a long wait last night hoping the foxes and badgers would turn up. Our young fox didn't show at his usual time and we were worried for him. About dusk our female badger showed up, a little more cautious than usual. she was constantly looking upslope from where she came. A few minutes later, almost as if she had gestured, one of her cubs bowled in to join her. It's so much greyer than her, head outsized to body, like so many youngsters. As it was getting so dark for photography, I rattled off a few shots and then we spent a merry 20 minutes watching them before they turned tail and left.
PS The young fox did show after the badgers had left. It was too dark to photograph but equally lovely to relax and watch him.

A rather wet fox cub from the other evening when we had that sudden downpour. Always alert! His eyes are getting darker now. Probably just reaching his adolescent years!
