Polhawn Fort, , sits on the western tip of the Rame Peninsula in Cornwall. A Napoleonic fort built in the 1860s, perched on a clifftop with the English Channel stretching out in every direction.

It’s for exclusive use. The whole place is yours.

For photography, it gives you everything. Dramatic coastal light. Stone walls and texture. Private beach. Real moments happening in a place that feels genuinely unlike anywhere else.

You’ll find sweeping lawns, wildflowers, and a private path that leads straight to your own secluded beach.

The Summerhouse offers the chance to celebrate outdoors, or cross the drawbridge and descend the granite spiral staircase into the Grand Napoleonic Hall, a vaulted space with windows overlooking the sea.

There are eight uniquely styled bedrooms, each with ocean views.

It’s completely understandable to feel a bit shy, and possibly even uncomfortable, about having a photographer capture you and your guests at your wedding celebration.

I always begin by introducing myself to the wedding party, and I might even share a few dad jokes to break the ice!!!

I step back and photograph the moments while you’re focused on your celebrations, and not the camera.

I let emotions unfold naturally, whether it’s laughter, a tight embrace, or even a tear falling down your cheek. I believe it’s much more compelling to show genuine, meaningful moments rather than pose for photographs.

Once we get to your portraits, you’ll have become comfortable and at ease in front of the camera. You won’t be pushed into any uncomfortable and awkward poses. It will feel natural and relaxed.

Award-winning photographs have their place, but the images couples hold onto often come from moments nobody planned.

I photographed a wedding where images won awards. The bride’s favourite was not one of them. It was a small moment when they held hands during the speeches. It only lasted seconds. I saw it happen, reacted quickly and caught it. That simple frame meant more to her than any of the other photographs. She posted this image on social media using the hashtag .

A few years later, I helped a friend photograph a wedding in Belgium. The groom’s father had a vintage open-top MG. The couple decided to drive the MG from the ceremony to the reception venue with my friend riding in the back. I told him that if the couple ever held hands during the drive, he should do everything he could to capture that moment.

At a Fearless conference years later, he told me one of the couple’s favourite images from the whole wedding was precisely that: the two of them holding hands in the car.

This is what documentary wedding photography gives you. Small connections you barely notice at the time. A smile. Jouful tears. Hands finding each other. A hand on a back. A hug. These moments capture the day’s feeling. They stay with you because they show how it felt, not just how it looked.

A Bridge Across Time and Memory

I was five when I left Kathmandu. My grandparents didn’t see me grow up until I returned seven years later for a short visit. At university, I spent my summers with them; those days became precious, fleeting moments to reconnect, to make up for the time we’d lost.

When I turned eighteen, my parents moved abroad to give us the life they’d dreamed of. For twenty years, they worked tirelessly, missing birthdays, milestones, and the small everyday moments that make up a life together.

Living apart taught me something important: a photograph can be more than a picture. It can hold a moment, a feeling, a connection; something that lasts even when people are far away.

Some of my happiest memories are the ones I make with my daughter: eating good food, watching films and TV shows, and sometimes even sports. They keep me grounded and remind me of what matters most: connection, love, and the moments we never want to forget.

We love travelling together, discovering new places, meeting new people, and tasting dishes we can sometimes barely pronounce (but end up loving). Our adventures are full of laughter in busy markets, wandering down quiet streets, sharing meals, and collecting memories rather than souvenirs.

She reminds me to see the world with wonder and to slow down to enjoy the small, joyful moments.
