A small selection from a recent commission in Deeside.

I had the privilege of spending time on a beautiful private estate, photographing a mixture of accommodation interiors, lodges, cottages, riverbanks, fishing pools, and the surrounding landscape. As you can imagine, this took more than one visit; the Lodge alone had 10 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

It was also a real pleasure to spend time with an incredible ghillie, capturing a little of the world of salmon fishing and the quiet character of the river.

A lovely change of pace from running workshops, and exactly the kind of commission I enjoy — part landscape photography, part interiors, part commercial storytelling, and part simply responding to a place.

This is an ongoing multi-seasonal partnership, and I can't wait to visit again in the autumn...

Talking about my own work has never come naturally, but some moments deserve to be shared.

I’m incredibly grateful that my photograph, Autumn Dancer, is part of the British Wildlife Photography Awards 2026 national touring exhibition, having received a Highly Commended award in the Wild Woods category.

Following its recent exhibition at Nunnington Hall in Yorkshire, the collection opens at the Horniman Museum & Gardens in London this weekend. It features 72 photographs and video celebrating Britain’s wildlife and natural world, and will remain at the Horniman until February 2027. The exhibition will also be shown at Nature in Art in Gloucestershire and The Culture Trust in Luton later this year.

Autumn Dancer was photographed in Glen Affric, among the ancient remnants of Scotland’s Caledonian Forest. I was drawn to the elegant curve of the silver birch, the soft autumn light and the quiet harmony of the surrounding woodland. It was not an image I set out to make; it revealed itself when I slowed down and paid attention.

Photography has never been about awards or recognition for me. It is about connecting with nature and creating something that reflects not only how a place looks, but how it feels.

It is also my antidote to the darker side of humanity. It brings me back to beauty, stillness and truth, and reminds me that what is created with care can stand against what is driven by hatred.

Congratulations to every photographer whose work is included in this exceptional exhibition. It is a genuine privilege to be exhibited alongside you.

SUMMER SCOUTING CLOSE TO HOME

Summer is probably my favourite season for being outdoors, but one of my least favourite and most challenging times for photography.

The long days, harsh light and dense green foliage can make woodland scenes difficult to simplify. When the conditions are not particularly photogenic, though, it is the perfect opportunity to explore locally, scout new locations and look for compositions worth returning to.

That was the purpose of this shoot.

I first noticed this woodland while driving past one day and made a point of returning to explore it properly.

These photographs were taken on a damp, overcast day. There was no mist, dramatic light or particularly atmospheric conditions, but the woodland has real potential.

It is definitely somewhere I will return to when the conditions are more suited to photography.

It was also a reminder of just how much there is to discover close to home. You do not always need to travel far to find interesting landscapes. Sometimes the most promising places are sitting quietly on your doorstep.

That is something I plan to continue throughout the summer. Exploring more of my local area, finding new woods and building a list of locations to revisit as the seasons and conditions change.

I love finding new woods and slowly beginning to understand their character.

NEW WORKSHOP NOW LIVE

Glen Affric is one of the places that changed the way I photograph.

A few years ago, I challenged myself to stop rushing through locations and spend an entire week exploring one landscape properly.

I chose Glen Affric.

That experience taught me to revisit scenes, respond to changing conditions and look beyond the obvious views. It also deepened my connection with woodland photography and the quieter details found among ancient Scots pine, old birch, lichen, moss, bracken and autumn colour.

This October, I am inviting a small number of photographers to share that experience with me.

The Glen Affric Woodland Photography Workshop is designed around a slower and more personal approach, with time to simplify complex scenes, explore intimate landscapes and create photographs that feel considered and connected to the place itself.

Private one-to-one and small group options are available between 10 and 24 October 2026.

Glen Affric has a way of slowing you down.

In autumn, the obvious views are beautiful, but the real magic often sits deeper in the woodland. Old birch trees, hanging lichen, quiet pockets of light, fallen trunks, moss, bracken and colour layered through the forest.

A bit of lovely news I’m very grateful to share.

I was honoured to be named Runner-Up in the 2026 British Wildlife Photography Awards, and I’m also delighted to have three images included in the beautiful hardback book from the 14th British Wildlife Photography Awards, which is out now.

To have one image recognised as runner-up is incredibly special, and to see three of my photographs featured in print in the book makes it all the more meaningful.

It’s always a strange and rewarding feeling seeing your work take on a new life on the printed page.
