WHAT A YEAR IT’S BEEN FOR WEDDINGS! 💍📸

As a wedding photographer, I’ve photographed weddings in sunshine, rain, wind, chilly churchyards… but 2026 is certainly giving us something to talk about!

Today, 13 August, London is reaching around 34–36°C, with an amber extreme-heat warning in place.

🌡️ 2026 has already broken the UK record for the number of days reaching 30°C, surpassing the previous record of 34 days set in 1995. We are now at 35 days — and counting.

💧 July was the driest July ever recorded in England and Wales (records back to 1836).

🌿 South-east England received only around 1% of its normal rainfall in July.

🚿 London is officially in drought and Thames Water’s hosepipe ban has been in place since 23 July.

And something extraordinary…

Kew Gardens recorded its first completely rain-free July since records began in 1871.

👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️ Wedding etiquette for VERY hot days

If you’re attending a wedding in this weather, please remember everyone is human! 😂

🧥 Gentlemen — jackets:
If a dress code asks for jackets, please respect it. If it becomes too hot, check with the couple/venue before removing it.

👗 Ladies — formalwear:
Beautiful outfits can be very warm — take shade, breaks and don’t suffer in silence.

💦 Hydrate:
Water is essential. Alcohol + extreme heat = not ideal.

🌳 Use shade:
Your photographer will always find the best light — often that means cooler, shaded spots.

────────

📸 Spare a thought for suppliers…

Photographers, videographers, florists, DJs, planners and venue teams are working 8–12+ hour days outdoors in extreme heat.

For photographers especially:
• carrying heavy gear
• working in harsh midday sun
• protecting equipment
• keeping guests comfortable while still creating great images

Ironically, bright sun is not always “perfect light” — shade and softer light often produce the best photos.

────────

❤️ Final thought

Don’t worry about jackets off, slightly messy hair, or needing shade.

The best wedding photos aren’t perfect — they capture how the day felt.

And this summer?

2026 is one we’ll never forget. ☀️📸.
