Burgh Island Hotel at sunset on the longest day of the year. The hotel is an Art Deco gem that was beloved by the writer Agatha Christie. It has been the setting for numerous TV shows and films including Lovejoy and Evil Under the Sun. Burgh Island. At high tide the water rises from both directions and covers the causeway when the only way to reach the island is on a specially designed tractor.

Summer Solstice at Bigbury Bay. We were hanging on as long as possible to catch the sunset before going to meet my daughter from Plymouth coach station. In the end we saw the sun setting and made it to the coach station with a minute or two to spare. The surf boarders are Jay and Laura who were parked next to us, and were packing up when we walked up to the car.

The Indian Palm Squirrel is a tiny ball of aggression. Solitary animals they are extremely noisy and when two of them encountered each other near where we were enjoying coffee the constant stream of abuse was comical. These squirrels only grow to about 30-40 cms in length, but make up for it in attitude.
