BLOOM (my project with teens and young people) is to make a comeback this summer!! so I thought I'd share with you the backstory.... Early in my career I realised how the photoshoot experience often has a wonderful and lasting power to infuse my clients with feelings of confidence and self worth. In my early studio days I shot a lot of families and teens... but in 2018 I decided I wanted to create something really special for teens and young people because I believe that instilling confidence during that difficult time of self discovery while you are growing up and finding yourself as a teenager is so important as it can cause affects ripples that last all throughout your life. Confidence to know what you want, and to go after your dreams and not settle for less than you are worth is such a valuable life lesson.
Back in 2018 when I ran my first of many "Model Workshop" (yeah I think the name needs work.) They were really amazing events. I invited small groups of teens to visit my studio for the day for a day of makeup, dressing up and modelling for a photoshoots. I'm still in contact with a lot of the teens from this time and have loved hearing about how their lives have progressed. Quite a few of the participants went on to study photography, makeup or fashion after picking up a real buzz from the photoshoot experience. They also made friendships with each other teens from the day which was also lovely to see.
I lost a lot of the images from those days which died on a broken hard drive back in 2020 so I don't have many photos from the days we did... but there were many. Themes like Kawaii, Gothic, Halloween, Antique Dolls were among the themes I can remember... but there might have been more.
7 years on, as I'm hoping to reignite my work with young people through a few group shoots as well as solo shoot days. I can't wait to create some beautiful shoots and hopefully inspire a future generation to love the creativity that photography can offer!
