Ryan Rooney - Photography -📸 Just a bloke with a camera, an unhealthy obsession with wildlife, and far too many photos of birds. New to photography but loving every minute of it.

Learning as I go, sharing the journey, and hoping you'll enjoy the photos

Spent a bit more time playing around with the slow-motion videos of the kingfisher yesterday 🎥🐦

It’s another one with a pretty crappy (literally) ending, so apologies if you somehow manage to make it past the 3-second mark without scrolling on 😁🤣

Hope you enjoy watching this incredible little bird as much as I enjoyed photographing it! 📸💙

Really happy with today's kingfisher shots! 📸💙

Definitely feel like they're getting better, and these are probably the sharpest in-flight photos I've managed so far.

The kingfisher was back and forth to the perch for a good hour, which resulted in 800+ photos to go through... wish me luck! 😅

And of course... there was also a crap shot. Literally. 💩🤣

A lovely juvenile kingfisher made an appearance too, which I believe may be a female due to the slight red colouring starting to develop on the lower mandible.

Now to sort through the other 799 photos! 😆

It was a bird of prey kind of day today! 🦅📸

Headed down to Ogmore-by-Sea hoping to spot some peregrines, but unfortunately they didn't want to make an appearance. Still, it turned out to be a great day for wildlife with my first-ever sighting of a kestrel! 😍

To top it off, there were a couple of buzzards soaring overhead, making the most of the coastal winds. Not the species I set out to find, but that's one of the things I love about wildlife photography — you never quite know what you're going to see next.

A few photos from today's adventure below! 📷

Today's collection from my walk 📸
Probably my third day in a row photographing the kingfisher... turns out they're not quite as hard to find as I first thought! 🤣

There were quite a few herons about too, along with plenty of bees and butterflies making the most of the sunshine.

A good few hours spent outdoors and a memory card that's now full again! 😅

Went searching for owls again today and finally found the Tawny Owlet! 🦉

Definitely not something you see every day.

I wasn't planning on staying as long as I did, but the owlet ended up on the ground in quite an unsafe spot. Rather than leave it, I spent around 5 hours keeping an eye on it and waiting for it to get itself somewhere safer. Thankfully it eventually made its way up into a tree, so I can sleep a little easier tonight 😌

Around 600 photos later and I'm finally home! 📸🤣

Here are a few shots for now while I work through the rest...

Wet and miserable outside this evening, but I’ve still managed to have a few garden visitors.

I never normally get woodpeckers in the garden, but today I had four! :D Hopefully they become regular guests so I can photograph them without a glass door in the way 😅

Also nice to see a juvenile starling in with the adults.dults.
