Sunrise at the Gate lake

Me and a good friend of mine got up foolishly early last weekend in order to get a head start on the wildlife. The dawn chorus is truly something to behold. Also it turns out a benefit of being this silly is we were up before the sun and what a spectacular treat that was to see when it finally rose.

It happens everyday and how many of you have seen one recently, be honest!

Orange-tip butterfly drinking nectar.

A photography group I am an active member of holds weekly challenges (Flickr Macro Monday). Last weeks challenge was titled "Into the woods". I knew I had to try and capture a photograph of a butterfly as soon as I read the title. There are so many butterflies in the woodlands next to where I live. I just needed to wait patiently...

Thankfully my patience paid off and this one was even kind enough to poke its tongue (proboscis) out for the photo.

Barn Swallow

Another visitor from far away lands and wow are they fast when they fly, 50 shots of the sky or a red and blue blur, one relatively decent shot of the swallow - pretty happy with this one!

Right place, right time... I managed to get the drone out and up above the fog just before it rolled in over the woodland, it's very interesting to see how the fog moves from the air.
