During this cold spell, a little pied wagtail has been visiting the garden. Watching these elegant, energetic birds pick their way through the frosted grass reminds me how important it is to support our garden birds in winter.

To help birds like the wagtail during cold weather, here are some simple tips:

✅ High-energy food like suet, sunflower hearts, peanuts, and mealworms will give them the fuel they need to keep warm.

✅ Keep feeders clean and topped up, especially first thing in the morning and late afternoon when birds need the most energy.

✅ Fresh water can be hard to find in a freeze, so pop out a shallow dish and break any ice that forms.

✅ A sheltered corner of the garden, with trees, shrubs, or a hedge, provides a safe place for them to perch and rest.

Supporting your local birds makes a real difference. If you’ve had any visitors lately, I’d love to know who’s stopped by your garden. 🐦‍⬛🦉

🎄✨ Over Christmas and New Year, I took a short break and enjoyed all the love, light, and leftover gravy with my little crew. Time with family, fairy lights, and my furbabies is truly the best gift.

This year’s decorations reflected my love for wild and woodland themes. There were hedgehogs in trees, candlelight, and cosy corners by the fire. I added a bit of wildlife-inspired magic everywhere.

Toby, Starzy, and Summer were always close by, ready for cuddles, a bit of chaos, and the occasional festive treat.

As we start the new year, I want to say thank you. Whether you booked a shoot, shared a kind word, or followed my work, your support means so much. I look forward to capturing more stories, adventures, and muddy paws in 2026.

I hope your days are calm, your coffee is hot, and your year is filled with moments to remember.

With love from me, Toby, Starzy, and Summer. 🐾🎁🌟

Today we remember.

Each tiny cross, each poppy gently catching the light, holds a name, a memory, a story. I took this photograph a few years ago in the grounds of Cardiff Castle. I remember the stillness, the quiet weight of so many tributes nestled in the grass. It stopped me in my tracks then, and it still does now.

Today, on 11th November, we pause to honour all those who served, who sacrificed, and who continue to do so. We remember their courage, their selflessness, and the families who stood beside them.

Lest we forget ❤️

The Arctic skies have a way of taking your breath away. At Ekker Island Arctic Lodge in Ekkerøy, I stood on the frozen shoreline, my tripod legs planted firmly in the snow, and watched as the aurora swept across the heavens. Slow shutter speeds meant every ripple of green and violet was gathered gently onto the camera sensor, even as the lights danced far quicker than the eye could follow 💚

It’s always a balance of patience and excitement, adjusting settings with numb fingers, hoping the clouds don’t roll in, then stepping back to simply take it in with my own eyes. The result is a little like bottling up a memory, something to return to long after the night has faded.

Currently, a strong solar storm is rumbling above our heads, which means the lights might be visible across the UK as well. If you have clear skies this week, wrap up warm, head out somewhere dark, and look north. You never know when the sky will put on its own light show.

With winter drawing closer, I can’t help but look forward to the long nights ahead and the promise of more chances to watch the aurora dance.

Would you stay out in the cold for hours for the chance of catching a glimpse?

brings us a little garden visitor with quite the personality. This hedgehog shuffled in quietly, nose twitching, eyes bright, completely absorbed in its evening search for supper. There’s something so grounding about moments like this, when you pause and realise that the wild isn’t always far away, sometimes it’s right there on your doorstep.

Have you spotted hedgehogs in your garden this year? 🦔❤️

🌿 Tiny toes and tangled tails. A morning with the harvest mice 🐭🍂

I’m not sure there’s a more enchanting way to spend a morning than watching tiny whiskered explorers wobble their way through hawthorn branches. These harvest mice were an absolute joy to photograph. Full of character, curiosity and the most delicate detail. Look at those little paws gripping berries like they’re holding the world’s smallest treasure.

Captured during a recent trip to Windows on Wildlife in Dorset, this session was a lovely reminder of the beauty that exists in quiet moments. A slow breath. A still frame. That gentle pause where everything comes together.

Which photo is your favourite? Or better still, what’s the tiniest wild thing you have ever seen up close?

Let me know in the comments 🧡

Happy International Dog Day from me and the king of the muddy zoomies himself… Toby 🐾💛

If you’ve ever met him, you’ll know Toby’s two great loves in life are belly rubs and getting absolutely covered in mud. Preferably both, in that order.

We recently took a trip to The_Whole_Yard, and to say he had the time of his life would be an understatement. Nose down, tail up, ears flapping. Every puddle was splashed through without a second thought, and every log was a potential throne.

This boy has been my sidekick through it all. Always up for an adventure, always watching the world with those big, soft eyes, constantly reminding me to stop and enjoy the moment. Especially the muddy ones!

So today’s post is for Toby and for all the wonderful dogs out there who fill our lives with love, laughter and the occasional bit of fox poo. You’re the best kind of chaos! 😄

Drop a photo of your own four-legged pal in the comments – I’d love to see them!

The heat is hitting our wildlife hard right now. This handsome chap stopped for a refreshing drink, and it was a reminder of how important water is for all our wild visitors.

A simple bowl of fresh water in a shady spot can make a big difference for squirrels and other wildlife. Please keep it clean, shallow and safe so everyone can enjoy it 💧🐿️🪶🦋

There are moments when the light, the subject and the stillness of the day come together just right ✨ On World Photography Day, I couldn’t resist sharing this image from a recent trip to Skomer Island.

This curious little puffin popped up just long enough to give me the most painterly profile pose 🎨 like he was sat for a portrait. That glint in the eye, the soft blur of the burrow edge, and the gentle green behind him made it feel almost like an oil painting. Nature, as always, is showing off.

Wildlife photography is one of those things that asks for patience, quiet and a bit of luck 🍀 But when it all clicks, there is nothing quite like it.

Have you ever been to Skomer? What’s your favourite wildlife encounter?

🐦❄️ On the snowy edge of Kaamanen in Arctic Finland, this Pine Grosbeak appeared among the lower branches. Soft greys, warm gold tones, and a quiet presence that suited the landscape completely.

While the male stands out with striking red, the female’s tones feel more in rhythm with the land. Subtle, grounded and every bit as memorable.

A flash of rose red among the branches, glowing softly in the arctic light.

This was Kaamanen in the far north of Finland, deep in Arctic Lapland. Snow thick on the ground, trees dusted white, and that dry cold that settles into everything. After hours in the hide watching jays, redpolls, and bullfinches come and go, the arrival of the Pine Grosbeak felt like a moment worth waiting for ❄️💙

Larger than expected, slow-moving and calm. Each movement is quiet, considered, completely at ease in the frozen stillness. Feeding gently at the edge of the snow, framed by light filtering through the trees.

This was exactly the kind of moment I had hoped for when planning this trip.

Hedgehogs can struggle in hot weather, especially when it comes to finding enough water. A simple shallow dish in a shaded spot can make all the difference for them.

These are some of our regular visitors to the garden. It is always a joy to see them stop for a drink, especially knowing it might be the only fresh water they find that night.

Please remember, just water and no milk, as milk can make hedgehogs very unwell.

It is such an easy way to help and could even save a life 💧🦔
