World Ocean Day 🌊
I have been thinking a lot about the sea lately. Perhaps as I have been lucky enough to spend time on a couple of very different islands recently. Places full of wildlife, extreme weather and little reminders of how much is happening around us when we slow down enough to notice.
Some of these photographs are from Hornøya in Norway, somewhere that felt wonderfully wild and a little bit otherworldly at times. Others are from a recent stay on Skokholm Island, much closer to home but equally as beautiful.
The ocean connects places that seem impossibly far apart. It carries stories, seasons, migrations, and fragile ecosystems that we as humans are only beginning to understand. And yet, for all its power, it feels increasingly vulnerable too.
World Ocean Day feels like a good moment to pay attention. I think time spent somewhere wild has a way of changing how you see things a bit. After Hornøya and Skokholm, the ocean feels less like a backdrop and more like something alive, busy and surprisingly fragile.
Also, puffins are the most hilarious little things out there, full of personality and curious enough to come close if you stay still long enough. I could happily watch them for hours 😍
